Robert Melton Obituary
04/19/1950 - 11/19/2023
Bob Melton, 73, passed away unexpectedly two months ago while umpiring in Austin.
Born in Bangor, Maine, he was a 1972 graduate of George Mason University, Va., majoring in Business and Public Administration.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents and a brother. He is survived by a sister and a nephew.
He retired from Roywell Services in 2019 as a Safety Compliance Officer.
Tennis was Bob's passion. He umpired all ages but his passion was the professional circuit and most proud of the 30+ years at the US Men's Professional Clay Courts held at River Oaks Country Club, in Houston. He played at a high level in Texas winning many tournaments and several major zones. Memberships consisted of the United States Tennis Association, lifetime member, Houston Tennis Association, past president, Houston Umpire Tennis Association, and Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Donations can be made in his name to any tennis association of your choice or George Mason University Foundations, 4400 University Drive, MS 1A3, Fairfax, Va. 22030.
Interment provided by Affordable Burial and Cremation of Austin, Texas.

BOB WAS ALWAYS ACTIVE AND FRIENDLY. HE BARTENDED MY THANKSGIVING PARTY FOR MANY YEARS AT THE DOUBLETREE HOTEL AND HILTON POST OAK. HE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE OF SERVICE AND HOW COULD ANYONE DISLIKE BOB ? HE WENT BY BOB AND I WENT BY ROBERT. HE'S TOUCHED MANY LIVES

What wonderful man. Only got to know him in the last 6 months. We shared lodging together and worked two events and he sure helped me immensely. He was gonna help me with ITA and was always checking up on my progress. He shared an HEB Cowboy cookie and said "You´re gonna love this Joseph". I took what I believe one the last photos of him speaking to tennis prospects about USTA umpiring. I miss you Bob

Bob, a friend, was a valuable asset to Texas Tennis as he tirelessly worked many hours officiating both Junior and Adult tournaments throughout the years. His passion for the sport was unmatched and he supported HTA through out his life in Houston. RIP Bob!
