In 1942, Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army and volunteered to serve in World War II, where he was given the life-long nickname of Dutch. In 1972, he met and married Margaret Behrend. He retired in 1978, which allowed him and Marge to travel extensively. In 2006, Lawrence and his sister Ann wrote a book about his Prisoner of War experience titled, "Take No Prisoners." Dear Zimmerman Family - I grew up near your father. We were on 1st Street North. I rode my bicycle to his driveway to turn around countless times during my childhood. My father, Bill Sersch, shared Lawrence's book with me and I never forgot the things he talked about. I know he's in heaven with the Lord where Silent Night will have a whole new meaning for him. God's blessings to you.

on,
I remember your father from the days of our youth. I recall your father was always a gentleman. Learning now of your dad being a prisoner in WWII had to be a very difficult experience as I am learning now from reading the book Killing Patton.
Losing a parent is a difficult experience and I want to offer my sympathy.
Best Wishes,

Larry Parmeter

We were so sorry to hear about Uncle Larry. He was an energizer bunny....always kept going. He was one stand up kind of guy! So impressed he was a POW, and not only lived to tell about it, lived almost 100 years inspite of it. Always loved visiting Aunt Margaret and Uncle Larry at Christmas and will always remember those great times. Blessings to all who knew, loved and will miss this special man.
