Judith G. Kunitz

Judith G. Kunitz is at peace. She passed away February 6, 2025, at the age of 88. Judy was born on March 6, 1936, in New York, NY. She met the love of her life, Paul Kunitz, when she was sixteen. They married when she was twenty. She attended Skidmore college in upstate New York where she earned her Batchelor's of Science in Nursing.

Judy and Paul moved to Huntsville for the first time in 1958 where they finally settled a few years later. Judy was a member of Temple B'nai Sholom for most of her time in Huntsville. She worked very hard as a stay-at-home Mom until her three daughters were out of elementary school. She worked in retail and then in daycare, ultimately retiring as an office manager from the family company, Valtex. Judy loved to travel and went on many cruises and excursions overseas. She sang in Sweet Adelines and worked on stage and behind the scenes in many Community Chorus and Huntsville Little Theatre shows. She was an avid supporter and volunteer for The National Children's Advocacy Center and Meals on Wheels. She was a competitive tennis player, winning several awards. She enjoyed playing mahjong and did so twice a week for many years.

Judy loved her three girls but absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia and Harry Greene; her husband, Paul Kunitz; her daughters, Sharon Kunitz and Heidi Kunitz; and her sister, Rozy Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kunitz Walker; her sister, Abbie Lovinger; her grandchildren, Rachel (Isaac) Leventon, Brian (Kelly) Parker, Amanda Knighten, Sammy (Serena) Kunitz-Levy, and Ellie Kunitz-Levy; and her eight great-grandchildren, Mack, Conner, Jackson, Nico, Eris, Shira, Henry and Caroline.

A graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery at noon on Sunday, February 9th.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Children's Advocacy Center or the Cantor Sharon Kunitz Music Memorial Fund at Temple B'nai Sholom.
