Dorothy Mae Stoddard
Dorothy Mae Johnson Stoddard, 86, of Nampa died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at her home from natural causes.
Dorothy was born Oct. 24, 1920, in La Grande, Ore., to Wilford Johnson and Ruth Strong Johnson. She was raised in Huntington, Ore., where she graduated from Huntington High School.
She married Vernon Nibley Stoddard on Dec. 14, 1941, in Portland, Ore., and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 13, 1942.
She lived in Portland, Roseburg, Corvallis and Hermiston, Ore., until her husband retired in 1976. In 1977 she moved to Weiser, living there until moving to Nampa in December of 1989. Her husband, Vernon, died May 5, 1993. Since then Dorothy has been living with family. She enjoyed being surrounded with family. At the time of her death, she had 91 direct descendants.
Dorothy was an active member of the LDS Church where she served over 35 years in the children's primary organization. She touched many lives in her years of service.
She is survived by her eight children: Vernon (Darla) Stoddard, Boise; Joy (Richard) Patrick, Stanfield, Ore.; Herbert (Patricia) Stoddard, Provo, UT; Douglas (Terry) Stoddard, Boise; Ruth Ann (Dan) Stokes, Nampa; Merrell (Carla) Stoddard, Nampa; Edith (Elroy) Huff, Nampa; and Sarah Stoddard, Weiser; three sisters: Harriet (Clyde) Hart, Las Vegas; Betty (Moyle) Brown, New Plymouth; Mary (Bob) Chandler, Weiser; one brother, Wilford (Janette) Johnson, Kuna; 35 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Margaret Christensen and son-in-law Howard Ough.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the Nampa 35th Ward LDS Chapel, 11288 W. Roosevelt Ave., Nampa. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the services from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Kohlerlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
