Donald Montgomery Obituary

Donald "Kirk" Montgomery
August 10, 1965 ~ July 30, 2017
Kirk passed away July 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born August 10, 1965 to Don and Beverley St. George Montgomery in Sunnyside, WA.
Kirk attended grades K-12 at Sunnyside. He attended the University of Washington and left college to work for UPS until 1992. (He was pursuing his college degree at BSU at the time of his passing.) In 1992 Kirk joined Kevin and Lisa Meyers in opening the Flying M Espresso/Coffee House.
From the moment Kirk set foot in Boise, he was a catalyst for friendships. The Flying M provided a space for many of his endearing friendships to take root and blossom; friendships that were sustained and nurtured over the decades; friendships that will forever be treasured.
Kirk met the love of his life, Sue McCabe, at the Flying M when she would stop for an espresso and conversation on her way home from work as an RN. They were blessed with two children, Harrison and Michael, who were his pride and joy!
After selling the Flying M, he pursued a career in transportation, working for the Boise public bus system and the Ada County Highway District commuter ride van pool. He was instrumental in increasing the valley's van ridership.
Kirk was passionate about Washington Husky and Seahawk football, along with Mariner baseball. He was quick to make friends and was always ready for a good political debate. One of his favorite sayings was "What's your problem!" Many of his sons' friends and his co-workers respected his fatherly advice. He enjoyed spending time with his sisters and their families at the holidays.
Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Greg, and nephew, Travis. He is survived by his wife, Sue, their two sons, Harrison and Michael, sisters Susan (Craig) Putman, Wapato, WA; Merry (Pat) Donahue, Lodi, CA; Terry (Tom) Fischer, Wapato, WA and sister-in-law Gail Arnold, Ellensburg, WA. Kirk is also survived by his fun-loving nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Jessica, Kelly, Amy, Matt and Andy. They were more like sisters and brothers to Kirk.
A vigil service will be held 6:00 PM, Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2612 West State Street, Boise, ID 83702. A celebration of life and Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be Morris Hill Cemetery, Boise.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's for their loving care of Kirk. Also, "Team Kirk" was amazing support at the hospital and that support continues. The family appreciates it very much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Grade School, Bishop Kelly High School or the charity of your choice.

I'm so sorry, for your loss. I only knew Kirk a little but even though, he was one of the kindest and friendliest people I've met. I will miss seeing him around the BK sporting events. God bless you all. Tim Mokwa

Kirk was my friend and brother. We met at age 18, both out of our element and on our own in Seattle Washington at UW. Kirk's amazing spirit embraced me as "brother" from then on and it shall for the rest of my life.
I was the beneficiary of his wit and light for years to come, albeit at a great distance during the past 25+ years.
I think all who loved him would agree, to be with Kirk was to feel joy. His giggling nature was always on offer. He was happy to rib you, accepting to you if you ribbed him back. That was just the great person that I know and will always think of with great emotion and immense fondness.
To his family, my family shares your sorrow for this great loss but we know that in time we will always celebrate such a wonderful gift of knowing our great friend "D. Kirk". Rest in peace my brother.
