Helen Fairbanks Obituary

Helen Jeanette Fairbanks
1937 ~ 2015
On the evening of October 17, 2015, Helen passed away after a six month battle with Leukemia; while being comforted by her children at St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise, ID. Helen was 78 years old.
Helen was born in Boise, Idaho on March 17, 1937. She was the second child, and first daughter, to proud parents Henry and Zelda Aitchison. She attended Holcomb and Garfield Elementary Schools, South Junior High School, and Boise High School.
In March of 1955, Helen married LaVern Fairbanks. Together they welcomed four children over the course of the following five years; Sue, Henry, Bill, and Linda.
Helen was an avid reader, sometimes finishing one or more books in a single day. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends, attending fitness classes with her Silver Sneakers group, knitting, and religiously supporting her children and grandchildren in many activities.
Helen always gave to others before thinking of herself. She was a generous donor to the Idaho Foodbank, as well as a faithful donor of school supplies to a local elementary school, and baby items for the community baby shower.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, Henry John Aitchison; her son, Henry Leon Fairbanks.
Helen is survived by her mother, Zelda Aitchison; her children, Sue (Bob) Langus, Bill Fairbanks, and Linda (Aaron) Light; grandchildren, Sean Sperry, Chris (Jana) Light, and Jennifer (Patrick) Jones; great-grandchildren, Addisyn and Harper Jones. She is also survived by her brother, Chuck (Judy) Aitchison; brother, Ed Aitchison; brother Bob (Marcia) Aitchison; sister Julie Mahoney; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 1:00pm at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel, 3629 E. Ustick Road, Meridian, ID 83646, with viewing one hour prior to service.

Helen and I both went to Garfield school but we didn't meet until 2007 when I joined Silver Sneakers. We got to know each other better when we for the time started our long, lively lunches with friends on Fridays.
I'm happy for the time we enjoyed together. She was smart, helpful and good company. I miss my special friend and will remember her always.
My sincere condolences to the family.
