James D. Hone Sr. 1926-2018

91, "Jimmy or Red" as his friends knew him was born in Canton, Ohio in 1926. A 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School, he entered the Navy immediately after graduating. He served during WWII aboard an LST in the Pacific. Upon the end of the war he returned to Canton where he met the love of his life, Angie. They were married for 59 years before she passed in 2006. Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1947 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He belonged to Canton Lodge #60 F.&A.M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine, Nasir Grotto, and Jesters AKRON Ct. 80. In 1997 he received a Meritorious Service Award from the Scottish Rite for his dedicated efforts for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Angie; father, Omer and mother Helen Berdine. Jim is survived by his son, Dan; brother, Tom (Nancy) of S.D.; sisters, Doeleene (Pat deceased) of Rocky River and Betty (Glenn) of Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Drs. Chet Bartram and Dean Borth for their dedicated efforts the past 3 years. They allowed Pop to have a few more years at home. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Masonic Services will be held Thursday at 4:45 p.m. followed by visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home (NORTH CANTON CHAPEL) 801 Pittsburg Ave NW., North Canton where services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.
