Paul Anthony Zaccarine passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at 80 years old surrounded by family on September 24th, 2023 in Concord, North Carolina.
He was born on June 13th, 1943 in Lackawanna, New York to parents Joseph and Victoria. Paul was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and much more. Paul graduated from Frontier Central High School in 1961 and went on to attend Buffalo State College where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in special education. Paul served in the National guard for 6 years. In addition to fostering many disabled children through the years he also volunteered his time for many organizations. In New York he volunteered at The Western New York Federal Credit Union and served many years on the Holland Central Schools Board of Education. After relocating to Virginia, he was the treasurer at The Lake Gaston Lion's Club, St. Peter The Apostle Church, Waterman's Point HOA. Paul spent many years working at the West Seneca Developmental Center where he became a Treatment Team Leader facilitating the opening of several group homes around Western New York making a positive impact on the lives of many.
Paul passed away leaving behind his wife of 58 years, Michealene (nee Brennan); son, Keith (Renee, nee Rogers) Zaccarine; daughter, Michaelyn (Gerald) Janiga; foster son, William Diefendorf; daughter-in-law Jennifer (nee Relyea) and seven grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his son Jason Zaccarine.
A celebration of life will be held for friends and family in North Carolina on Saturday, November 11, 2023. A small memorial followed by lunch will take place at 12 p.m. at Basilico-Italiano, 10020 Edison Square Dr., Concord, NC 28027.
For friends and family in New York a funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at St. Gabriel's RC Church located at 5271 Clinton St. Elma, NY 14059. A brunch will follow the mass at The Columns Banquets located at 2221 Transit Road, Elma, NY 14059.
