John Means Obituary

John Henry Means ("Tootie")

born June 18, 1939 and transitioned from life to eternity on Saturday evening, January 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Taylor) Means; father and stepmother, John J. and Lillie B. Means; sisters:  Nina M. Mumford, Helen J. Chambers, and Peggy A. Means; and son, Brian Turner McClung, all of whom he had a special relationship with.

John retired from the Indianapolis Star, but was also a skillful house painter and maintenance worker. While his favorite pastime was the card game "Dad," it can be said John also enjoyed dominoes with his porch crew (who affectionately called him Godfather), and barbecuing.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ora Elaine; children:  John Henry Means II, Darlene Means (Lynn), Anita Means (Mack), and Kenneth Isaac McClung (Deneen); brothers:  William J., Levester (Deborah), Danny E. (Marsha), and Kelvin A. (Barbara) Means; sisters:  Delorse Russell, Louise Avery, Betty J. Cabarris (Arnold), Joan E. Arnold (Richard), and Henrettia Means-Nelson; and a brother-in-law, William L. Elliott. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of friends and relatives including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Funeral Home, with services beginning at noon.
