Lois Gentry Obituary

Lois "Maxine" Gentry 89, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. She was born on March 16, 1920 to Harry and Minnie Gahan. A lifetime resident of Indianapolis, Maxine married Ralph Gentry in 1940. They enjoyed 34 years together prior to his death in 1974. She remarried at 75 years of age to Raymond Moeller and enjoyed three years of companionship prior to his death. She had one brother, Earl Hollister Gahan who preceded her in death. For the first 80 years, Maxine's life was full of good health and good friends. She was a very sweet person, devoted wife and mother. Her keen sense of humor, constant smile and love of others made her a joy to be around. Her hobbies included painting and song. Although a gifted artist, she focused her energies on creating a loving home rather than a career. She sang in the Mother's chorus at school and in the choir at Grace Methodist Church for many years. Volunteer work was important to her, whether it be at school, church, White Cross Guild or Riley Hospital for Children. Maxine is survived by her son, David (Basia) Gentry; daughter, Barbara (Bill) Hayes; three grandchildren, Michael Hayes, Susan O'Connor and Melissa Barry, and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 27 and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Carmel. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by entombment at Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions made be made to the American Cancer Society.
