Obie Jay Smith, III

Obie Jay Smith, III, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, November 9 with his family close by his side. Jay was born at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to the late Obie Jay Smith, Jr. and Marion Butler Smith on March 11, 1935. After attending South Kent High School in Connecticut and Indiana University, he served four years in the U.S. Army as Military Police. A member and long-time usher at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and member of the Ancient Landmarks Lodge #319 Free and Accepted Masons, he is survived by wife of 52 years, Audrey, son Charles (Barbara), Allen (Jessica), grandchildren Elijah, Isabella, and Claire, and brother Stephen (Jane). Visitation will be at Crown Hill Gothic Chapel at 9:00am on November 23, 2019, followed by 10:00am funeral services. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Indiana Blood Center, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home: www.crownhill.org | (317) 925-3800.
