Beryl Headley Obituary

HEADLEY
Beryl Louise Headley (Mack) went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 2018. She was also known as Mom, Aunt Beryl and to her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was Gee-Gee. Beryl was born in St. Augustine, FL on Feb. 9, 1932, the daughter of James and Flora Mueller Mack. She lived in Key West and Pahokee FL but spent most of her childhood years growing up in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She graduated from New Smyrna Beach Senior High School in 1950, attended Massey Business College, in Jacksonville, and shortly after graduation, met the love of her life, Garland W. Headley of Farnham, VA. They were married in Jacksonville, FL on Feb. 19, 1954 where they resided. Starting a family a few years later, Beryl left the workforce and was a devoted mother, serving many years as a co-leader for her daughters Brownie and Girl Scout troops, the PTA, a room mother, and years of piano lessons, recitals and scorekeeping for swim meets. She was an avid bridge player and played in multiple bridge clubs. Beryl returned to work in 1974 after the unexpected passing of her husband, and worked in the Accounting Department at Baptist Hospital of Jacksonville and then as a Secretary for the Medical Staff Office. In 1985 she went to work for the City of Jacksonville in the Department of Civil Defense and then transferred to the Fire and Rescue Department where she retired in 1999. Along with her parents, Beryl was preceded in death by her husband Garland. She is survived by her daughters, Leigh Jones and Jeanne Goldman (David); granddaughters, Katelyn Linville (Les) and Kristen Brim; grandsons, Garrett and Dawson Goldman and great-grandsons, Cody and Cooper Linville. Beryl had many close friends throughout her lifetime. Her high school girl friends would reunite each year, affectionately named by her daughters as the Pink Ladies, friends from Holiday Hill, Glynlea and Grove Park, church friends, Edgewater Crossing and Westminster Woods friends and everyone who knew her as a friend were all special to her. Beryl was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, FL. and was active in the Women's Daytime Circle. She traveled to many places here in the United States and abroad, enjoyed going to the Alhambra Dinner Theater, the Symphony, and the FCCJ Artist series with her friends. She did enjoy her TV shows and Hallmark movies and loved football. She could tell you anything you wanted to know about the players, coaches, commentators and rules of the game. Her favorite teams were the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars. She kept up to date on current events by watching Fox & Friends and believed it was important to be informed. She enjoyed talking to people and could carry on a conversation with just about anyone. She loved a good joke and her witty sense of humor never failed to make you laugh. Family was most important to Beryl and she treasured time spent together for family gatherings, birthdays and holiday celebrations. She was a special lady who overcame the challenges life presented her with perseverance and grace, championed for justice and what was right and lived as a beautiful example of strength, courage, sacrifice and love. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who have known and loved her.
The family invites friends for visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, January 17 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd.

Beryl and I had years of wonderful times together here and away. She was always ready to jump in a plane or cruise ship or into a car with me to explore the world. We enjoyed the restaurants everywhere we went, too. Really enjoyed them!
I'll miss Beryl, but I have the great memories to keep me company till I see her again.
