Dr. Marvin Schultz Obituary

Dr. Marvin Harold Schultz, passed away September 27, 2011.
Dr. Marvin Schultz was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 4, 1922 to Julius and Lena Schultz.
Dr. Schultz graduated from the University of Iowa with his doctorate in 1946. He completed his internship in 1947 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He began his practice in Waterloo, Iowa where he stayed until 1950 when he joined the US Air Force as a Captain of the Medical Corp. After leaving the service in 1953, he completed his residency at the University of Iowa in 1956. He entered into private practice in 1957 in Marquette, Michigan and in 1962, relocated to South Florida as one of the first Otolaryngologists in Broward County. Dr. Schultz became the chief of Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital where he greatly impacted the medical community during his tenure. He was a true visionary introducing the first operating laser and operating microscope to Broward County which he used in microsurgery of the ear nose and throat. Dr. Schultz conducted the first stapedectomy at Holy Cross Hospital.
Dr Schultz was actively involved in many organizations. He was a member of the Broward County Medical Association "BCMA", Florida Medical Association "FMA", American Medical Association "AMA", Fellow in the American College of Surgeons "ACS(F)", American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology "AAOO". He was also a Mason, Shriner, Kentucky Colonel and an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, hunting, football as well as being an instrument rated licensed multiengine airplane pilot.
Dr. Schultz is preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Rosenthal.
Dr. Schultz was a man of the highest integrity and honor. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Ethel Schultz; sons, Dean L. Schultz, Barry R. (Marcy) Schultz; seven grandchildren Michael, Pierce, Hunter, Brooke, Leland, Jay, and Skylar; brother, Gerald T. Schultz, M.D.; nieces; nephews; and many friends and medical colleagues.
Funeral services will be Sunday, October 2, 2011, 10:45am at Forest Lawn North Funeral Home with interment to follow. Shiva to be held at their home Sunday and Monday.
