JOSEPH RICHARD HORGAN

1950 - 2021

HORGAN JOSEPH RICHARD 71, of Oakland, passed away on March 19th, 2021 after a brave battle with cancer. Joe was born on January 27th, 1950 to Amelia and Joseph A. Horgan in Phila. After graduating from Father Judge High School he went on to study anthropology at Penn and Cornell, and later earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas. After graduation, Joe had a long career as an attorney in Olathe, Kansas. In 1986, he married his wife, Darlene Horgan. Joe had 2 children, Chris and Jason. Joe was a force of nature, and his family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Joe had a brilliant mind, and in addition to his intellectual pursuits, also loved nature. He rarely sat still and could be found biking or hiking when he wasn't at home. Everyone who knew Joe appreciated his wit and unflinching honesty, but most of all, his loyalty. Joe was predeceased by his father Joseph A. Horgan. He is survived by his mother Amelia Horgan, wife Darlene, his sons Jason and Chris, their wives, Ceshia and Elena, granddaughters Autumn, Rea, and Daphne and siblings Michael, Christine and Vienna. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Arbor Day Foundation, East Bay Regional Parks District, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. There will be a memorial service later this year.
