Rev. Benjamin Barnes Rev. Benjamin Barnes, 94, of Beaufort, SC, husband of Sue Porter Barnes, died Friday, September 28 at home. Ben was born in Colleton County, SC on May 18, 1924 to the late Oliver P. and Pearl Varn Barnes. Ben is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue; daughter Susan (Lee) Lively; sons Will (Sharon) and Ben, Jr. (Mandy); his grandchildren, Katie Weaver (Dean); Leland Lively, Ben Barnes III (Caroline); Page, Glenn Barnes, Jackie Barnes and great grandson, Jennings Weaver; brothers Marion Edward (Anne), Oliver Lee; sister Grace Caldwell; He is preceded in death by his brother, John Holland Barnes and sister Mary Barnes McCall. Reverend Barnes served in the Civilian Conservation Corps; the US Army in Italy. He was a 1949 graduate of Wofford College and Candler School of Theology, where he was ordained as a United Methodist Minister in 1953. Subsequent to ordination, he served various United Methodist Churches for the South Carolina United Methodist Conference. Reverend Barnes was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 4 from 5-7PM at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will Friday, Oct. 5, 11AM at Carteret St. United Methodist Church, Beaufort. Interment will take place at 3PM at Wesley Chapel UMC, Ehrhardt.
