Beaufort, South Carolina - Evelyn Blanche Koth, 75, gently passed from this world on Jan 4, 2021 in the company of loved ones in her home in Beaufort, SC, less than 10 miles from where she drew her first breath on Parris Island in the Naval Hospital. She was eternally her daddy's girl, a daughter of the south, and a child of spring, wearing its bright florals and dusting her cheeks with its pinks. Her favorite color was yellow, matching the daffodils that greeted her at birth.
Other than her family, Evelyn loved these things above all else: God, cooking, sewing, and people. She showed her love through food. Entering her home, her children, family, and friends were swept up in the aroma of macaroni and cheese, made from scratch bread, fried chicken, butter beans, sweet potatoes, stewed okra and tomatoes, and the rich taste of pound cake. With the support of her quilt guild and sewing group, she also expressed her affection and creativity through gorgeous quilts sent across the country to those she loved.
She always found sweet serenity on the oak dotted bluff overlooking the Beaufort River or down at the Waterfront Park at sunset. The scatterings of fiddler crabs, the sound of the crashing ocean waves, and the delight of spending time with family at Hunting Island brought her infinite joy. In her adolescence, the piercing cry of seagulls matched the squeak and squawk of Evelyn's clarinet as she learned to master its sticking pads until at last she proudly took the field during halftime with the Beaufort High School marching band. Her Tuesday Weld beauty, bouffant curls, and hazel green eyes caught the attention of many a doe-eyed admirer. In her later years, solace was found in her garden of faith where she joined with her Christian family as they gathered in home fellowship. With a life of caring and sharing, Evelyn leaves in the world her two sisters, five children, and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service were held on 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 8th at Evergreen Cemetery on Bladen Street, Beaufort.
