Patricia Boulden Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Boulden Patricia Purnell Boulden, 81 passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Pat is survived by her husband of 58 years, David C. Boulden; by her son, Jeffrey C. Boulden; by her daughter, Lisa Boulden Synnott and Lisa's family, husband Stephen P. Synnott, and their children, Meredith, Nolan, and Griffin; Pat's brother Howard Purnell, his wife, Marie, and their children and grandchildren; Pat's Sister-in-Law, Joanne Seeds, her husband Thomas, their children Nicole and Gretchen, and their families. Pat was preceded in death by her son, Gregory D. Boulden, and by her sister, Sarah Flagg. Pat was born on December 20, 1936, in Wilmington, Delaware. Pat resided and was educated at the Elizabeth W. Murphy School in Dover, Delaware, due to her Mother's untimely death. While going to school, Pat had many odd jobs to save money for her eventual departure from the Murphy School, upon graduation from High School. Pat knew she had to support herself and worked very hard to do so. Like many Delawareans, Pat went to work for the Dupont Corporation, where she worked until she married. She and Dave were married on February 6, 1959 at St. James Episcopal Church Mill Creek, Wilmington, Delaware, Pat is remembered for being a loving and supportive spouse and parent. Nothing was more important to Pat than family. While raising three children and caring for their home, Pat held many jobs to help support the family. She enjoyed her many friends she met through work, dance club, church, golf leagues, and various other volunteer interests. Pat befriended many older neighbors, caring for them as she would her own family. Pat truly enjoyed her many opportunities to travel, and she and Dave traveled as often as possible. Their travels took them all over, with Pat truly enjoying both Alaska and Hawaii. She loved tropical climates, long walks on the beach, and was an avid shell collector. Never sleeping in on vacation, rather she was up with the sun beach combing for the day's best shells. Pat's faith was always a significant part of her life. She often sang hymns while doing housework, and famously quoted the Serenity Prayer when things got tough. She served both Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles, MI., as well as The Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC, as a member of the Alter Guild. Despite a four-year battle with cancer, Pat's faith sustained her. She frequently commented that hers had been a truly blessed life. Pat will be remembered at a Memorial Service at the Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC Saturday January 27th at 11:00 am, and internment will be at St. James Episcopal Church Mill Creek, Wilmington, DE, at a later date. Pat and Dave were married at St. James, all three of their children baptized there, and their son, Greg, is interred there, along with both of Dave's parents and various other family members. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Pat can be made to St. Luke's Missionary Hospice, 16 William Pope Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909 or Church of the Cross, 110 Calhoun St., Bluffton, SC 29910. Pat's family will be eternally thankful for all the care and support from St. Luke's Hospice staff.
