Robert Farina Obituary

NASHUA, N.H. - Robert A. Farina Sr., 87, of Nashua, died on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Feb. 11, 1926 in Lynn, Mass., Robert was the son of the late Alberto and Concetta (Discipio) Farina.Mr. Farina was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School in 1943. After his graduation, he joined the Army Air Corp and later served with the occupation troops in Japan. Upon his return from Japan, Bob attended Northeastern University graduating with a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in business administration.On Memorial Day in 1954, Bob married Mary E. Murphy of Lynn, Mass. In 1960, Mr. Farina began a 30-year career with Sanders Associates and moved his family from Lynn to Nashua, N.H. He was an active communicant of St. Christopher Church for 54 years, serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector and member of the church choir.Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing tennis, swimming and gardening. He was a volunteer at the Red Cross blood drives and Greenbriar Nursing Home and participated in many activities at St. Christopher Church and the Knights of Columbus. Bob was an active member of the Sanders Retiree Breakfast Club for many years. His greatest joy, though, was spending time with family. He was a wonderful Italian cook, and his dishes and recipes were enjoyed by family and friends for many years.Mr. Farina was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Liborio and Albert Farina.Members of his family include his wife of 59 years, Mary; five children, Mari-Jane and husband Robert Skladany; Robert Jr. and wife Rebecca; John; Susan; and James and wife Fran; 14 grandchildren, Michael and Brian Farina-Connors, Emily Farina and Ethan Zimmer, Kathryn and David Turnbloom, Andrew Skladany, Margaret Farina, Anthony Farina, Bobby Farina, Elizabeth Skladany, Lindsay, Kyle and Mikayla Keppler.Service information: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester St., Nashua, today at 11 a.m. Friends are invited to attend and will gather at the church. We pass through our short lives often praying to meet a
perfect match, a bosom buddy, a man or woman of such character that God Himself had to place in our path. Only when Bob Farina left us did we realize that
