Laura Romero Obituary
1> Laura Margaret Romero commonly known as "Pat" died in her sleep in the early morning of December 16, 2003 in her beloved hometown of Pomona. Her occupation was homemaker. She was born in Spadra, California on October 3, 1923. She would live the rest of her life in Pomona. Her father was Frank Acuna originally of Texas. He died when she was just six months old. Her mother was Avellenia "Minnie" Perez of Spadra. Avellenia was the granddaughter of Maria Vejar de Perez, daughter of Don Ricardo Veja r of the Rancho San Jose. Laura Romero lived through the Great Depression, World War II and all of the conflicts and great world events since. With her first husband who is long deceased, she had two son's Milford Perez who died in infancy and eldest son, Frank Perez of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was always thankful to have been blessed with Frank's safe return from Vietnam. Eldest daughter is Margie Higgins formerly of Chino, who now lives in Oregon. Her second husband was Joe Romero, originally from Miles City, Montana. He died on September 15, 2000. His death left a void she never filled. He was a Korean War veteran with the United States Marine Corps and had the occupation of air-conditioning engineer. She forever yearned for his companionship and in fulfillment of their wishes, she will be buried at his side. They will rekindle laughter and closeness in eternal rest. Together Pat and Joe reared three sons and a daughter. Surviving them both are Joe Romero Jr. of Pomona, Mike Romero of Pomona; Laurie Ro mero-Silva of San Bernardino and Tim Romero of Guadalupe, California. Both parents were fiercely proud of their children's service in law enforcement and the military. Laura Romero was a strong minded woman who strived to instill in her children values capable of withstanding ever changing times. She was straight forward and blunt in her opinions and her outlook on life was simply never to give up. Through all sorts of adversity she maintained self-respect and was not swayed by the easy road. This is the legacy that she bestows upon her six children; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Just two months ago over forty relatives and friends from four different states gathered at the Sheraton Fairplex to pay tribute to Laura Margaret Romero's 80th birthday. It is that gathering and tribute that shall stand as her memorial service. Friends and family will have the opportunity for a viewing at Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 20. Immediate family members will have special viewing at 9 a.m. A private burial will occur later in the afternoon at Forest Lawn in Covina. Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, is in charge of arrangements.
