Roy Smith Obituary

Dr. Roy Smith, cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and pediatrician passed away on December 24 unexpectedly. He will be missed by all his family who will remember his contagious laugh, his sense of humor, his joy in serving his young patients, and his love for all things golf. Roy was an avid traveler enjoying trips during his short life worldwide, but valuing the family he traveled with more than the experiences and sights he saw. He was respected by his staff and colleagues, loved by his patients, and enjoyed the community where his services were received and appreciated.

He is survived by his wife (of 43 years) and high school sweet-heart Myrna, children Scott and Stacey, grandkids Thomas, Emily, Sophia, Stevie and he was excited for the arrival of his fifth in February. Roy's siblings Judy, Jeannie, and Jackie will miss their brother, and his unexpected passing reminds us how precious life is and to cherish every day we are given. We are sustained in his passing by God's promises and look forward to the hope of Revelation 21:4, the comfort of Matthew 5:4, the protection of Psalm 68:5, and the peace of Philippians 4:6-7. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose."

Just found out today about the passing of my daughter's doctor of almost 14 years. He was the most caring doctor I have ever seen. He helped us through my daughter having lumps in her breast at the age of 12. Prayers are with his family.

My family and I are so terribly saddened to hear of the loss of our pediatriton. He was such an amazing doctor for my boys. I will always remember his smiles and kind voice. He was the doctor that helped get my son diagnosed with autism. We will always remember Dr. Smith, and hope to send his family our deepest condolences.

My two boys have been seeing Dr Smith for almost 10 years. His loss is great to us. He was superb at his job, attentive, had a great sense of
humor , and was so
caring. I am shocked by his passing and wish his loved ones peace. All who knew him are saddened and share your grief.

What a loss! The ideal Pediatrician. His "beside manner" happy ties and big smile and calm demeanor was captivating and all the while he was already diagnosing. Simply a brilliant pediatrician. How he enhanced life! RIP

I am truly devastated to hear of Dr. Smith's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Smith when my youngest son was born 7 weeks prematurely. The nurses in the NICU seemed to think my baby would need to have an extended stay in the NICU but Dr. Smith had other plans. He reassured me that my baby was healthy and he would have him out of the NICU in no time. Dr. Smith went every morning for 8 days to see my 3lb 13oz baby boy and make sure the nurses were following his instructions on the care my son needed. My son is now 8 years old and a healthy and happy young man. I was so happy to have had Dr. Smith during my family's time of need and during the following years. He had a great knowledge of his practice and a great attitude towards his work. My sons and I will miss him dearly.

I am so sad to hear of Dr. smith's passing. He was pediatrician to all 4 of my kids since my oldest was born in 2003. He was such a kind and caring man. You could tell he really loved his job and the kids. I loved how he would talk to my kids since they were babies and say how cute they were and tell them he liked their shoes or hair bows! We will never find a doctor like him, he was the best. He was such a blessing to our family and we will miss him greatly. Praying for your family

I am devastated to learn of Dr. Smith's passing today. He has been my son's doctor since birth, who is 16 now. Dr. Smith got us through many health issues over the years and always remembered everything without looking at a chart. He truly was the best physician and will be missed beyond measure. I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort you during this very difficult time.

I just learned of Dr. Smith's passing yesterday. I worked at Beaver in the UM/QM dept for 10 years. Everything I saw or spoke to Dr. Smith he was always smiling and happy. His patients always sent wonderful letters about him. When my granddaughter was born, helping her parents choose a pediatrician was no brainier.

He cared for my granddaughter over the past four years. No matter what she was taken to him for, he always showed the love of Christ to my family. His knowledge, love and respect will be missed. Dr. Smith was everything we expected in a pediatrician and more.

My granddaughter was always excited to go to him. However, last year she had a series of blood work and associated the doctors office with pain. Dr. Smith took his time with her, reassured her that he was a safe person and, gained her trust again.

My condolences to the Smith family. God truly bless you with a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Roy Smith, M.D. May the peace of God be with the family.

I just learned of the passing of Dr. Smith and I cannot say enough how much we will miss him. Dr. Smith was my daughters doctor since birth (she is now 22) and also of my son, who is 13. Anytime we spoke of Dr Smith in our home we couldn't speak of him without smiling and we always said "He is the best doctor ever!" and that he was. We will miss him greatly. My daughter is with us today because of the great care he provided her when she fell ill 13 years ago. I know God's promises are true and I will look forward to seeing him in heaven one day when the Lord calls me home.

We just heard of Roy's passing today, and are deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful Physician, colleague, and friend. He was practicing in Paradise when my wife and I arrived and started our own practices. He saw our young son, and was the kindest and most gentle caregiver I've ever met. Though it's been many years since we saw him last, he is greatly missed. Our condolences to his family, friends and patients.

My deepest condolences to the entire Smith family. Dr. Smith was my sons pediatrician for over 10 years he was like no other Dr he will greatly be missed.

January 5, 2015

Dr. Smith was a special gift. My heart is saddened at the loss of having such a great doctor but also a wonderful person. I have four children and he was loved by all of them. What a gift he was.

J. Rodger Wood

January 5, 2015

I remember the first time I met Roy Smith. He was in the third grade and his mother had dropped Roy and his sisters off at school a little early so they could play with some of the other kids. Roy went trotting out to play football and Jackie went to the swings. Jackie yelled, "Roy, come push me. Please Roy." Roy went a little limp but without a word went back and pushed Jackie on the swings. For those of us who love Roy, we would have expected nothing less but such an expression of love and selflessness.
I loved calling his office every May 29 and asking whoever answered to tell Dr Smith that Rodger Wood says, "Happy Birthday".

With my sincerest sympathies,

January 5, 2015

What an amazing man was Dr Roy Smith. Our children, 13 and 8 both cried when told of his passing, as we had our annual appointments tomorrow. How many kids look FORWARD to their annual check ups?? Ours wholeheartedly did, which is a tribute to his connection to all that he met, and especially to the children that he so expertly and lovingly served. There will be very large shoes to fill, bless those who step forward for the task! To the Smith Family, please know that we are thinking of you, praying for comfort and missing your husband, dad and beloved family member right along with you!

We are shocked and saddened by the passing of Dr. Smith. He was there the day my twins were born 16 years ago. He told me that he had boy/girl twins too and if I ever needed a
babysitter to let him know. We felt like we were his favorite patients,
but I bet he made everyone feel that
way. We are so blessed to have known him, he was a wonderful doctor to Sarah, and David for 16 years. He always took his time, and really talked to the kids. I remember how when he would enter the exam room he would always wash his hands and wipe down the sink, always! We will miss him so much.

the years he has been more than a Doctor to us, he was a friend. Rest in Peace

Dr. Smith was the BEST pediatrician. Both of my children saw him the whole time he was at Beaver Medical. We received him when Dr. Brown left and couldn't of been more pleased with the change. My children thought the world of this man and just LOVED going to see DR. Smith. My daughter actually talked him out of a shot but what she didn't realize was that she just postponed it. Didn't work the second time. LOL.. Then when she was 19 Dr. Smith told her that she really needed to think about seeing a BIG girl doctor. She was devastated.
When she had her children they too went to Dr. Smith. We are very saddened by the passing of a Great man.
Thank you for being as GREAT as you were.

I can truly say that today is a very sad day in our household. Not many doctors impact your life in a way, that their passing causes you real grief. Doctor Smith was no ordinary doctor or person and we are grateful to have known him. Dr. Smith has been our 3 children's pediatrician for nearly 15 years. It was always a pleasure to need to see him. His smile and laugh made even the sickest kids feel better. We will never forget his kindness, patience, attentiveness to each child and how excited he would be to see how they had grown. Our prayers go out to his family, friends and those many patients who have lost a hero to their children.

Dr. Smith loved and cared for all three of my babies. I remember him sitting in our hospital room waiting his turn to hang out with our youngest who had just been born. He was gentle, kind, and so full of the most wonderful gift, love. In memory of the birth of Christ God called the best pediatrician home. With kindness and condolences.

Dr. Smith was such a wonderful person and pediatrician. He cared for all 3 of my children spanning almost 20 years. One of the things I loved best about him was how he addressed the children directly and not just the parents when talking them through the exam or procedure. He was so kind and comforting and my children loved to go see him. When they were sick, he would go the extra mile and call and check on them in the evening after office hours just to ensure they were doing well. He was absolutely the best and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time, and hope they can find comfort in knowing how much he positively impacted so many lives.

It's not very often that someone is devastated by the loss of a health care provider, but I'm rocked by the passing of the boys' gentle, joyful, loving, and patient pediatrician. What an example of a life of serving a community he has been. Thank you, Dr. Smith for believing little humans are important, and treating their parents with kindness.

Dr. Roy Smith's death is such a shock. He was the pediatrician for some of my now grown children and he was the pediatrician for 3 of my grandchildren. it was obvious that he loved children by the way he spoke to them and cared for them. He was very gentle and kind. He will be greatly missed. He touched so many people's lives for the better. May his family experience God's comfort amidst their sorrow and cling to Him for strength.

I always felt so blessed that Dr. Smith was my children's pediatrician. Such a dear, sweet man who will be greatly missed. He always made his patients (and their parents) feel as if they were his only patients for the day. Always smiling, always uplifting. I am grateful to have known him, and I hope his loved ones will find peace in knowing how loved he was by his patients.
