Carmen Rivera Robles 73, of Brawley, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

As the second oldest of ten children, Carmen learned to become a nourisher and care-giver of her younger siblings. These would be traits she would be known for all her life. She also learned to approach situations in creative ways. This was also a lifelong trait which we referred to as thinking "outside the box".

She was the first in the family to get a college degree. Actually, she obtained two degrees. The first was in business and the second was in education. Both were from San Diego State University.

Her first degree led her to work for the San Diego Yacht Club as an accountant for a few years. Soon, she felt she needed to follow her heart to a new direction. Through much prayer, she decided to pursue a teaching credential. Teaching was her gift. After a few years teaching, she decided to pursue a degree in Special Education. This now her third credential. She taught in Special Education for about 20 years. Her last assignment was first grade.

Carmen used her many years of teaching experience to teach catechism classes. She loved being a servant of God in her childhood parish of Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Using that "think outside the box" mentality, she created Mary's Club. This was a multi-age kid group focused on our Blessed Mothers message of kindness and prayer. To all, it was beautiful to witness kids learning alongside their families. She also assembled and lead the churchs team that organized a yearly Feast Day for Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.

Carmen also loved to travel the world. She wanted to meet a variety of people and experience diverse cultures. She loved to share these exciting experiences with her students. She has walked the Great Wall of China, visited Mozart's home, soared to the top of the Eifel Tower, and tried to fix the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

What she loved and valued the most was her time with family and friends. Sometimes it was to fundraise, pray or simply grab a cone at Foster Freeze.

She was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Ernest and is survived by siblings, Concepcion, Steve, John, Lucy, Joe Jr, George, Rodrigo and Irene.

The Robles Family ask in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She gave so much of her love to this wonderful catholic community.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley. Rosary will be at 7pm. Mass will be on Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Brawley. It will be officiated by Father Claro.
