Greetings to all,
I´m not aware of anyone being notified of messages left about my father on this site. However, if by chance one of you do read my message, we are so grateful for the wonderful comments you all have left. I read the messages just a few minutes ago on 7/17/2025. The kindness and heartfelt words are a comfort to my soul even though over 15 years have passed. The grief of losing a loved one never fades away. The grief is still ever present. But, things do get better with prayer and time. Eventually, we arrive at a place of acceptance. The heartache subsides and your thoughts turn to memories of the good things that you shared with your loved one. My mother, Suzette, and I have been at this place for a while now. I will be sharing these inspiring messages with my mother and Suzette. We thank you all!

Dear Betty, Suzette & Paul:

I was so blessed to have worked for Bill as his secretary in the early 80’s (ICF-MR Facility II). When you actually share an office with someone, which Bill and I did, you really get to know that person. I learned of Bill’s love for his family, his mom and the beach house. I experienced his ability to tell funny stories. I witnessed his passion for working to make the daily life of the developmentally impaired at Sunland Center a better one. But, most of all, I saw daily his gift to encourage all employees to be their best. Thank you for sharing him with all of us through the years. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Betty Sue,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Billy was a special person in so many ways. Don't think he complained much even though you knew he hurt. His suffering is over now, no more pain. You have been through a lot of years of his sickness and you were always there for him. God bless you. I know it was hard on both of you. Remember all the good times and God will help you heal and continue on with your life. I'm sorry I can't attend the funeral, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you. Marie Powell.

I knew Bill when Sunland first opened its doors and he was a Cottage Parent in Grant Cottage and later transferred to the Recreation Department. Bill was a very good employee and dedicated to serving the mentally challenged. He was a good friend of mine while I lived in Jackson County during 1963-65 and we shared many good times together talking sports. His sister-in-law was my Secretary and Bill would come by the office to check on her and we would chat. Bill will be missed and I want to wish his family my sorrow and best wishes.
