Harld Farmer

MATTOON -- Harld C. Farmer, 90, of Mattoon, passed from this life to his Heavenly home at 4:06 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Funeral services in tribute to his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28th, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Schilling Funeral Home. Harld was born May 24, 1917, in Marion, Illinois, a son of John H. and Addie G. (Bridwell) Farmer. He married Violet Crenshaw on September 12, 1941. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-six years, Violet Farmer of Mattoon; his son, Michael Charles Farmer and wife Ellin of Prescott, Arizona; his three daughters, Carol Ann Harrison and husband Gary of Surprise, Arizona, Susan Peck and husband Alex of Charleston, and Jan Murphy and husband Brian of Mattoon; one brother, Ab Farmer and wife Betty of Palm Coast, Florida; one sister, Aline Radcliffe of Marion; four grandchildren, Sean Christopher Harrison and wife Jennifer of Phoenix, Arizona and Kevin Michael Harrison and wife Jenny of Huntley, Illinois, Brad Hughes and wife Jennifer and Jacob Murphy, all of Mattoon; and seven great-grandchildren, Josh, Corey, Megan, Jason, Brittany, Anthony, and Maisy. He was preceded in death by an infant twin brother, Carl Farmer; four brothers, Arthur Farmer, John Farmer, Elmer Farmer and Cecil Farmer; and two sisters, Mildred Mayer and Jewel Parton. Mr. Farmer was formerly the owner/operator of Westinghouse Laundromat and worked in sales at Warner's Office Equipment for many years. Harld was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where he served on numerous boards and committees. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club in Mattoon. His friends will remember him for his wit and good-natured ways and his family will remember him for creating a warm and loving home. Memorial gifts in his honor are suggested to First Baptist Church of Mattoon.
