Mary Ann Pesha Thompson

MELBOURNE, FL -- Mary Ann Pesha Thompson, devoted wife to Joseph Thompson (predeceased) and mother to Kimberlee (Chuck) Sturts and Anthony (Allison) Thompson of Mattoon, IL; and Mark (Gayle) Thompson (predeceased) died June 11, 2006 in Melbourne, FL. Mary Ann was born in Decatur, IL, and attended schools in Mattoon, IL, and graduated from Mattoon High School. Mrs. Thompson worked as a bookkeeper and secretary till 1970 when she was promoted to Retail Operations Manager for AAFES. She supervised the purchase of ladies clothing for the Military Bases in New England till her husband was transferred to Arizona in 1973. She worked for Interfaith Counseling Services in Scottsdale, AZ, till her retirement in 1983. Mary Ann took up golf in her retirement and played to the very end in the game she loved dearly. She and her husband Joe moved to Melbourne, FL, from Scottsdale, AZ, in 1994. Mrs. Thompson was a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, a member of the Elks Club, the Harbour City Golf League, Ascension Catholic Church and Faith Fellowship Church. Survivors include nine grandchildren: Keith and Kody Miller of Mattoon; Anthony and Derek Thompson of Silver City, New Mexico; Brandon Thompson of Gilbert, AZ, Emily of Florida; Clifton Sturts of Norfolk, VA; April Prahl of Las Vegas, New Mexico; and Janet Sturts of Mattoon, IL. A Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 15 at the Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. There will be no visitation. Please, no flowers. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon, is in charge of local arrangements.
