Jeanne Burns Obituary

Jeanne Lucie (Dion) Burns, 67, of Westfield, Mass., died Dec. 29, 2011, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Quebec, Canada, one of 15 children to the late Napoleon and Antionette (Lantagne) Dion. Jeanne was employed for over 25 years as a pharmacy technician at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Westfield, Mass., and a member of the Our Lady of the Spirit Prayer Group in Enfield. Jeanne loved Aruba and traveling to Maine, Cape Cod, and Canada. She also was a competitive card player, enjoyed trips to the casinos, and was an avid Yankees fan. Most importantly Jeanne loved her family deeply and entirely.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, John E. Burns of Holyoke, Mass.; her loving sons, Roger P. Chabot, and his spouse, Michael M. Parisi, of Becket, Mass., and Andre F. Chabot, and his wife, Cheryl, of Southwick; and her cherished grandchildren, Michael and Diane Chabot. She also leaves her brothers and sisters, Leandre Dion, Adrian Dion, Sr. Jeannine Dion, Gaetane Gagnon, Sr. Isabelle Dion, Rene Dion, Louisette Dion, Giselle Dion, and Norman Dion, all of Quebec, Canada, Solange Aube of Westfield, Mass., Yvon Dion of Quebec, Canada, Lucien Dion of Ontario, Canada, and Michael Dion of Quebec, Canada; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Lionel Dion.

Funeral ceremonies for Jeanne will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at 9 a.m. from the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, Mass., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Bartlett St., Westfield, Mass. Burial will be private in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Enfield.

Family and friends will gather on Monday Jan. 2, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gifts in memory of Jeanne Burns may be sent to The University of Connecticut Foundation, 10 Talcott Notch Road, Suite 100, Farmington, CT 06032. Checks should be made payable to the UConn Foundation and should note that the gift is to support the Womens Cancer Prevention and Treatment Program at the UConn Health Center.

Jeanne & I got to be very close when she would visit John at the Soldiers Home. John and my Dad were roommates. I have witnessed her courageous battle over the years. Her final words to me this past Wednesday were "I love you!". Jeanne I love you too my friend.
