MARGARET Verlene SCHOONHOVEN, 85 FREEPORT - Margaret Verlene Schoonhoven, 85, of Freeport died Friday, June 27, 2014, at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. She was born January 2, 1929, in Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of Charles and Vera (Messimore) Brubaker. She married Robert Schoonhoven on July 31, 1948, in Baileyville, IL; he died on July 1, 2007. She worked at Stephenson Nursing Center for 20 years, retiring as a secretary. Margaret is survived by her son, Richard (Wendy) Schoonhoven of Prairie View, IL; her daughter, Twyla (Bruce) Haugh of Freeport, IL; three granddaughters, Kristina (Seth) Jones, Mary (Timothy) Dempski, and Marcia (Karver McPeek) Haugh; six great-grandchildren, Destiny Haugh, Joshua Jones, Nathiel Jones, Lucas Jones, Kamden McPeek, and Ella Jones; and her good friend of many years, Marilyn Gitz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cranes Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory.
