George Churley Obituary

George Michael Churley

George Michael Churley, 77, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 55 years by his side. He was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer in May 2024.

Born in Jamaica, NY, George was a college-level drama instructor at Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE, national touring and TV puppeteer at KOLN/KGIN, and founder of AdEdge Inc. In retirement, he dedicated himself to family, friends, and community.

He is survived by wife, JoAnn; children: Rebecca (Jason) Christenson of Lincoln, NE, and Benjamin (Becky) Churley of Madison, WI; his four grandchildren: Jack, Norah, and George Henry Christenson of Nebraska and Navarre Churley of Wisconsin; his sister, Susan (Doug) Meilander of Baltimore, MD; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Mildred (Lilly) Churley.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., in the Gilmore Conference Room at the Nebraska History Museum, 131 Centennial Mall North, Lincoln, NE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in George's memory can be made to the Lincoln Community Playhouse, Freedom from Religion Foundation, or the American Civil Liberties Union.

I worked with George on an NETV Christmas program when i was 11. 49 years later I still remember and enjoyed every minute of the experience. Thank you George for the memory
