Bernard Weis Obituary

PARIS TOWNSHIP - Bernard Peter 'Barney' Weis, 92, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington surrounded by his family. He was born February 2, 1919, in Paris Township to the late Christ and Catherine (nee: Ehlen) Weis. Barney was a lifetime resident of Kenosha County. In his youth, Barney had worked on several farms in Paris and Brighton Township, as well as his father's milk route. He also had enjoyed playing baseball. On February 11, 1939, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton, Barney was united in marriage to Erna Marion Eppers. They resided on the county farm in Kenosha County following marriage and had spent most of their married life in Paris Township. Barney and Erna were married for 65 years and had raised 10 children. Erna preceded him in death on December 24, 2004. Along with being a Farmer, Barney had worked for American Motors, retiring after 24 years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, and the Senior Citizen Senile Golf League. Barney enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He and Erna enjoyed car rides together and were on a couple's dartball league. In his later years, Barney truly enjoyed the golf cart rides with family and friends around the family farm. Survivors include his loving children, Ralph (Corrine) Weis of Kansasville, Bonnie Jean (Bill) Maurice of Kansasville, Gerri (Richard) DeGroot of Kansasville, Linda (Dennis) Cole of Burlington, Diane (Jim) Kempf of Kansasville, Chris (Denise) Weis of Paddock Lake, Dan (Marie) Weis of Union Grove, Dean (Tracy) Weis of Salem, and Tim (Jane) Weis of Union Grove; daughter- in-law, Darlene Weis of Yorkville, 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grand- children; three great- great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Daniels of Burlington and Dorothy Daniels of Salem; brother- in-law, John (Sue) Zeihen; and sister-in-law, Dolly Zeihen. Barney was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erna; a son, Jack; granddaughter, Suzzette Maurice; brothers, Fritz (Rosemary) Weis, Nick (Edna) Weis, Alvin (Loretta) Weis, and Gilbert (Lucille) Weis; sister, Marcella (John) Eppers; brothers-in-law, Art Daniels and Everett Daniels; and by in-laws, Bernard Zeihen and Nona Mae Zeihen. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Russ Arnett officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, August 14, 2011, from 1 until 5 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home with a 5 p.m. Prayer Vigil officiated by Rev. James Volkert. Memorials to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society, or to the American Heart Association have been suggested. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Burlington Memorial Hospital ICU as well as the staff at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center. Sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Barney he was such a great, interesting uncle with a sence of humor and always good for big laugh. He was so proud of all this family and their accomplicements.
Really enjoyed hearing this family stories and times fishing w/ Uncle John. Uncle Barney and Aunt Erna, Just a Great Couple.We'll miss Ya!! Ron, Scott (Emili) Bryan (Alisha) Weis and Family, Rocklin, California
