Bernhard Molter Obituary

Molter, Bernhard R. Passed away at age 88 on November 25, 2016, with his family by his side. Born January 12, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI to Bernhard and Marie (Losch) Molter. Devoted husband to Marilyn (nee Holzem) for 54 years. Loving father to Linda (Steven) Zik, Kelli Molter, Susan (James) Gossett. Dear grandpa to Zachary and Evan Gossett. Loving brother of Arthur Molter. Predeceased by brother Fred Molter. He will always be remembered by his family as "Bob" and his friends as "Bernie." He served his country proudly for over 20 years by enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1947, where he participated in the Berlin Air Lift during the WWII occupation of Germany. He completed his service in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring in 1988. On a dare, he joined the Milwaukee Police Department in 1954 as a motorcycle cop. After numerous accidents, he advanced to four wheels for everyone's safety, including his own. During his 34 years of service he took pleasure in handing out "tickets" to family and friends. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park (13235 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield) on December 28, 2016 at 1:30 PM. Visitation will follow until 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or SmileTrain, two charities he was passionate about.

Hard to believe three years have passed since we said good bye to Bernie. Bernie was a neighbor that turned into a friend. We miss him.
Peace and love to the Molter family.

I wish true peace for the Molter family.

Gail and I met Bernie through Steve and Linda, we immediately had a great neighbor- friend. We enjoyed cerebrating many holidays, birthdays and just hanging out at the campfire at Steve and Linda's house, plus numerous other events. He always had interesting WWII stories and jokes, even though occasionally he would tell them over and over. We respected Bernie for his service to his country as a WWII vet and dedicating his life to his
community as a Milwaukee police officer. Bernie loved his country and his family and is a true American Patriot and Hero.
We will miss him , but we are sure he is serving his lord in heaven still telling stories and cracking jokes.
The entire Molter family are in our thought's and prayers. God Bless.

MY CONDOLENCES TO THE MOLTER FAMILY WITH RESPECT TO HIS PASSING.

BERNIE MOLTER WAS A CHARACTER, AS CHARACTERIZED IN THIS OBITUARY AND DESCRIPTIVE WORDS ABOUT HIS LEAVING MOTORCYCLE PATROL AND TRANSFERRING TO MOTOR VEHICLES --- FURTHERMORE ISSUING TICKETS TO "FRIENDS AND FAMILY".

I MET BERNIE MOLTER, IN ABOUT SEPTEMBER 1962, DURING MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT AT #7 DISTRICT. BERNIE, ACTUALLY WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME, DURING THE PRE-CHRISTMAS SEASON OF GIVING, WHEN ALL THE BURGLARS WERE BUSY BURGLARIZING HOMES, BERNIE BROUGHT HIS BICYCLE TO WORK, AND PATROLLED THE ALLEYS FOR BURGLARS, BEFORE POLICE BICYCLE PATROL'S BECAME AN ACCEPTED WAY OF PATROLLING.

MY EMPLOYMENT WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, LASTED OVER 18 YEARS, COMING FROM THE BROADCASTING COMMUNITY, WMVS-TV, CHANNEL 10, WITI-TV, CHANNEL 6, WORKING WITH CARL ZIMMERMANN AND BARBARA BECKER AND WMIL RADIO, THEN DESIGNING A POLICE TELEVISION NETWORK AT THE DISTRICT STATIONS AND FOUR CHANNELS IN POLICE HEADQUARTERS AND TWO TELEVISION STUDIOS AT THE THEN NEW POLICE / FIRE ACADEMY ON N. TEUTONIA AVE.

AFTER TAKING MY FAMILY IN 1978, ON A VACATION TO LOS ANGELES, AND WITNESSING HOW THEY WINTER, AND AFTER PERFORMING TWO SUMMERS OF RESEARCH OF RETURNING TO BROADCASTING, JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND HOME PRICES, I RESIGNED IN "GOOD STANDING" AND DIDN'T LOOK BACK AT MILWAUKEE WEATHER.

Reading Bernie's obituary about his years as a policeman made us smile! He had so many great stories of his wonderful life that he shared with us on our New England trip. We are so blessed to have met both Bernie and Marilyn during this trip. Everyone on the bus loved Bernie! He always had a hug for everyone! He will be missed by many.

My sisters and I loved our dad. We experienced being unconditionally loved by him, and he taught us to appreciate our family, country, and nature. He empowered us as women to be independent and successful. We have great lives because of him.
