Donald Knauff Obituary

Knauff, Donald J. Age 86. Died on November 6, 2012, with his family by his side. Don was born May 7, 1926 in Effingham, IL, to Arthur and Edith (nee Strobel). Husband for 62 years, of Arleen (nee Jochem). Father of Kurt (Diane) and Leslie (Joseph) Claas. Grandfather of Amy, J.D., and Alexandra Claas and Robert and Thomas Knauff. Brother of Doris Schleich. Preceded in death by sisters Maxine Fehr and Carol Boland. Don grew up in Freeport, IL. As a high school senior, he was named to the All-State football team. He was a Navy veteran of WWII having served aboard the USS Langley and the USS Catoctin. He earned his BS and MS degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison where he lettered four years in football. Don taught and coached at Freeport High School and Wauwatosa High School until the opening of Wauwatosa West High School where he taught for 20 years. He was a member of the National W Club and American Legion Stenz-Griesell Post #449. Visitation Friday, November 9, 2012, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 12130 W. Center St., from 9:30AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) appreciated.

Even though it's been a long time since I've seen Uncle Don, I will always remember his big smile whenever the families got together over the holidays on Walnut and Homer St. in Freeport. Take comfort in knowing he joins his family in God's eternal home. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you~

Aunt Arlene Kurt Leslie and Family so sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Donald he was such a great man what a legacy he left behind. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. I remember when my grandma and grandpa (John and Maxine Fehr)would bring me on summer vacations to visit he was always great fun. Until we meet again rest in peace Uncle Don
