Paul Fredrick Obituary

Longtime Southeast Alaska resident Paul D. Fredrick died on June 5, 2016, while fishing south of Juneau. Born May 5, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Paul was the fifth child of Patricia J. Fredrick and Theodore M. Fredrick. In 1964, Paul moved with his family as a youth to Sitka. Following his graduation from Sitka High School in 1972, Paul attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
As a young man, Paul made his way in Sitka working, hunting, and fishing. He owned and operated Misty Mountain Natural Foods before going to work for Alaska Lumber and Pulp; eventually worked his way up to millwright.
Paul relocated to Juneau in 1983 where he started a career with the State of Alaska that spanned over 20 years. As a building maintenance worker for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, and later with the Alaska Department of Administration, Paul literally kept the lights and heat on, along with countless other equipment, in numerous state offices throughout Juneau until his retirement in 2010.
Most days outside of work Paul could be found on his boat, Cathy Jean, trolling from one drag to the next in search of the bite; often with friends and family on board. A seasoned commercial hand-troller and recreational fisher, Paul explored every waterway between Juneau and Sitka in search of kings, silvers, and halibut.
Following retirement, Paul enjoyed driving school bus for First Student Inc. in Juneau, which gave him his summers off to pursue his love of fishing from the helm of the F/V Shearwater, and spending more time with family.
Paul's passions in life included fishing, hunting, barbequing, and spending time with his family and friends. He liked his stories long and his music loud.
Paul is survived by his wife of 32 years, Becky, their children Alex (fiancé Abby and their children Hunter and Lillie), Cathy (her son Landon), Mitch (wife Kelly and their children Parker, Makayla, Peyton, and Riley), and Amy (husband Kyle and their daughter Aida); his siblings, Jim (wife Linda (Doyle) and their children Toni and Carrie), Jill (husband Tom Scheidt and their daughter Tanya), Cathy (husband Jim Revard and children Cam and Kelly), Chris (husband Ron Davison), and Carol Jean (husband Terry McIntyre); his in-laws, Al and Georgene; and his brother-in-law, John;
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Pat, and father, Ted.
A celebration of life will be held at the Juneau Moose Lodge from 12:00-2:00 PM on July 9, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

I enjoyed working with Paul at First Student. He had a way to make us all laugh! Expressing 'student situations' that occurred on his bus, in such a comical way, (his way), not holding anything back! Going to miss Paul on the bus & on the water, where we'd find him, always with his grandson, teaching him the 'ropes', fishing the waters he grew up on.
