Douglass, Kansas - Gerald Dee Shaver, 91, of Douglass, KS, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at St. Francis Medical Center. Gerald was born November 13, 1930 to William and Fae Shaver of rural Cedar Vale, KS. They later moved to the Rose Hill area, then in 1945 moved to the Douglass farm, where he still lived. He married Vivian O. Bair in Burden, KS. They would have been married 64 years on May 25. The couple made their home in rural Douglass where Gerald was a farmer/rancher. He was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church, and a 70-year member of the Douglass Masonic Lodge. He was in the Army from 1951 – 1953, stationed in Germany after the war. He was a truck driver for an artillery group but never saw action. He was nicknamed Dennis, for "Dennis the Menace" because he was always playing tricks on his buddies. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian O. Shaver, son Scott William Shaver, grandson Dustin Michael Blake, father Wm. (Bus) Shaver, mother Fae Shaver, in-laws Anna Mae and Ola Bair, sisters-in-law Lenora Henderson, Oleta Shields, Eula Mae Martin, Beatrice Waymire, brothers-in-law Homer Bair, Orville Bair, Eugene Bair, Bill Henderson, Bill Shields, Ray Martin, Tom Waymire, Aileen Bair, and Richard Mackey. He is survived by his son Greg (Carolyn) Shaver, daughter Deanna Blake, all of Augusta, KS; grandson Troy Shaver; granddaughters Jamie (Austin) Sizemore, Molly (Rodney) Kirby; great-grandson Kade Sizemore; sisters Norma Branine, Judy (Johnie) Howell; sisters-in-law Wanda Mackey, Sarah Bair, Eleanor Bair; and many nephews and nieces. Visitation 6-8pm Friday, May 20, Smith Mortuary in Derby. Funeral Service 10am Saturday, May 21, at the Douglass United Methodist Church, with interment following in the Douglass Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Douglass Senior Center.
