Janeva Engber Obituary

Engber, Janeva "Lorraine," 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend entered eternal life on Thursday, October 6, 2011. She died peacefully in her sleep under the care of her family and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Her husband, Martin preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage. Lorraine was born in Lost Springs, KS on August 30, 1917. She was the first child of John and Molly Schneider and spent the early years of her life growing up in Herrington, KS. She was a graduate of Emporia State Teacher's College and taught classes at St. Paul's Lutheran Church School at Herrington and also Lehigh Public School. In 1942, Lorraine moved to Wichita to attend business school and joined Beech Aircraft as it was expanding for the WWII effort. It was at Beech that she met her future husband, Martin W. Engber. They were united in marriage on Christmas Day in 1942. To this union, 2 sons were born; William Engber and Kenneth Engber. Lorraine was an accomplished homemaker and cook and her family was always the focus of her life. Lorraine was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 60 years and was very committed to many of the activities at her church. She especially enjoyed her involvement with establishing the church library. Lorraine and Marty had many mutual interests including gardening, traveling and especially spending time with family and friends at their summer cabin on Beaver Lake. Lorraine was always concerned with the needs of others, and she filled our lives with wonderful blessings, laughter, fun and wisdom. She loved her God, her country, her family and friends without reservation, and lived a life to be admired and respected. She leaves us a legacy of unconditional love and we will love her forever. Survivors include her sons, William Engber, M.D. of Madison, WI and Kenneth Engber of Wichita; brother, John R. Schneider of Ojai, CA; grandchildren, Cristine Engber of Wichita, James Engber of Los Angeles, CA and Lisa Shomo of Burbank, CA; 1 great grandchild, Griffin Shomo. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 925 N. Waco with family greeting friends an hour before the service. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established with St. Paul's Lutheran Church. To sign a guest book or leave a condolence, go to www.cochranmortuary.com

Ken,
Just noticed that your Mom past on. I know you will miss her beyond measure!! She was a wonderful person. I have a picture that she gave me of Kent and I when we were in our teens. I know you were a real blessing to her. May God comfort you and your family.
