Vic Zakoura was a "Pillar" in the Wichita-area. Indeed Victor was respected thoughout the whole State of KANSAS. His dedication to the young, the old, the sick/disadvantaged & the downtrodden will never be forgotten. Victor exemplified the virtues of the Holy Bible. A good and wise gentleman. God Bless You, Vic.

Hi Marge, You do not know me, personally, but I knew your dad. He lived in our block, and sold our home at 2115 on the first day of an open house. We loved him, he was a very kind gentle man. I remember your mom worked at Montgomery Wards, and was a sweet lady. My son, used to mow Victor's yard, and one day, and was cut on his hand, badly by the mower moving down the slope, while he was pushing the grass in the catcher, and Victor felt so badly about it. The son left the mower running, and Vic shut it off, when he got home. The son, left a trail of dripping blood all the way down the sidewalk, to home and mom.
One of my daughters went to school with you at Allen School, I think it was Ginger.
I remember seeing a article in the paper, a few years back, where you requested letters for your sweet dad, and I really intended to write him, but you know how it is---Sorry I didn't do that. He would have remembered us.
Now I live across the street at 2116, so am not far away.
I also remember he used to have a box at Dillon's, where he collected used eye glasses, for those who could not afford to buy their own. He was a man, with a heart of gold.
I believe there are still 3 families living in this block who might have been here, when Victor lived on the south end of that block Blanche, is in her 90's, and is still living right next to his old house. Possibly another family, and us. It is still basically a pretty nice block, but we have a mixture of people now. Mostly older, some middle aged, some very young. Not as pretty a block as it once was, even just 8 yrs. ago.
I thought of Victor every time I drove past Standard Realty, on Oliver. He always left his sweet mark, where ever he was. I KNOW you will miss him greatly. Joyce

Marge, our thoughts and prayers go to you at this time. Your dad truly lived life to the fullest thru his many areas of service. He was the kindest man ever and my dad/mom, Harold/Wilma Durham, thought the world of him.
Love you,

Uncle Vic always had a special place in my heart. Every time we would come to town to visit Sitti (his sister, my Grandmother), he would make sure he stopped in for a visit. He even visited us in Tokyo! And every time I saw him he was adorned with a warm smile. I love you Uncle Vic!

VIC ZAKOURA was a mighty good friend of my late parents and myself. The connection went way back to around the year 1969 when Vic's son, the late Mr. Mike Zakoura was my Elementary School Principal at Rose Hill, KS. I later met Vic (when I was an adult) at my Dad's Keystone High-12 luncheon Club meetings...then held at Midian Shrine each & every Monday at 12-Noon. Vic would always arrive EARLY in order to sit next to my Dad & I...and Vic would always say: "Well, everybody from Rose Hill is here !!" He would greet us with smiles and handshakes. We would have great visits, that way. Vic and I had a 50-year age-gap..but you'd never notice it: He & I were both in DeMolay; we each joined the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Shriners...and later I was inspired to join the Lions Club . I was inspired to join the Masons because of my Dad's good influence and I was inspired to join Wichita West Lions Club solely because of Vic Zakoura. He was one of the few who was "a true-blue-friend". VIC ZAKOURA would do anything for practically any worthy individuual. A good man, and a Godly man. A fine polished personality who treated all people with Respect and Kindness. Vic was a genuinely good Christian. He was a good Master Mason and valued member of both Masonic Rites and The Shriners... .... ...and he leaves a lasting Legacy. I just saw Vic a few days before his passing in March 2012. Our enduring friendship of many, many years was still keen in his mind. I will miss him. He was a QUALITY GENTLEMAN. God Bless you, Vic. And, my condolences and sympathy to your entire extended family,
Sincerely and Fraternally,
your young friend,
James A. "Jim" Marples
