William Lucas Obituary

William Lee Lucas
March 9, 2022
Wichita, Kansas - William "Bill" Lee Lucas, 84, retired owner of Lucas and Associates CPA firm, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Bill truly fulfilled the American Dream. Born in Virginia Appalachia, he started working at the age of 10 due to barely having basic essentials. Finishing only the 8th grade, he joined the Air Force at the age of 16 with his mother signing for him. This brought him to Kansas where he eventually obtained his GED and then attended Wichita State obtaining an accounting degree. He initially worked for the IRS and then went onto Elmer Fox & Co. He eventually left Fox to start own accounting firm, Lucas and Associates. Although successful in his business, and he also enjoyed golfing and travel, his family and grandchildren gathering became his true passion and love. He successfully raised five children and he and Debby loved hosting them and their children for Sunday dinners, holidays, and summer pool days to offer a drink and show off his vocal talents and dance moves. Through all of his amazing accomplishments, he will most be remembered as a proud Papa. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Riverlawn Christian Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Virgia Lucas. Survived by his wife, Debra Lucas; sons, Jerry Lucas, Eddy (April) Lucas, Brennen (Courtney) Lucas; daughters, Vicky (Dave) Caron, Tracy (Justin) Taton; grandchildren, Mallory (Adam) Johnson, Kaitlyn Burton, Jessica Lucas, Matthew Lucas, Brandon Lucas, Caroline Taton, Annabelle Taton, Ella Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Emily Lucas; great-grandchildren, Charlie Johnson, Maddie Johnson. Memorials have been established with: United Way of the Plains, 245 N. Water St., Wichita, KS 67202, or First Tee of Greater Wichita, P.O. Box 8313, Wichita, KS 67208. Bill was a great person and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. It was my good fortune to have known him. He taught me a lot. For over two decades I looked forward to tax season because it presented an opportunity to spend some time with Bill. My sympathy to the Lucas family and the family of Lucas and Associates for your loss.

I never had an easier to get along with boss, mentor, golfer, friend. We shared the tragedy of 9/11 together that day on a golf course. Bill loved the game as much as everybody loved him.
