ADOLPH BOLLIG Obituary

Adolph Joseph Bollig passed away at the age of 94 at his home in Roeland Park, Kan., on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Adolph was born on April 25, 1915, in Victoria, Kan., to Peter and Anna Bollig. His parents immigrated from Graf, Russia, in 1908 and settled in a small German community in Western Kansas. Adolph was the 10th of 11 siblings. He grew up in Victoria and attended St. Joseph's Military Academy and Fort Hays State College. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1945 and was stationed in the Pacific Theater in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska with the Signal Corps. He attained the rank of sergeant and received an honorable discharge in November of 1945. Adolph served as the County Clerk for Ellis County, Kan., before eventually moving to the Kansas City area with his wife, Bertha Bollig. He moved to Roeland Park with Bertha and his children in 1955, where he remained until his death. His professional career included occupations as a teacher, an office manager for Great Western Paint Company, a business relocation specialist for the Urban Renewal Agency, and as an accountant. He was a member of the Thomas More Prep Alumni Association, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. Adolph was very active as a member of St. Agnes Church, and he loved to be an usher for the 5:30 Mass on Saturday evenings. Adolph was an avid sports fan, and he was a devoted follower of Notre Dame football, the Boston Celtics, the New York Yankees and the Bishop Miege Stags. He was a baseball coach for his son, Richard, with teams in Johnson County 3 & 2 baseball league for five years, and he helped his grandson, David, while he played baseball in the Johnson County 3 & 2 league. Adolph is survived by his wife, Bertha Bollig; his children, Maryann Williams, Judy Sheridan, and Richard (Nancy) Bollig; grandchildren, Janet (John) Storey, David Williams, Christopher Bollig, and Daniel Bollig; and his step- grandchildren, Courtney, Michael and Eric Luschen; his great granddaughter, Hannah Storey; his sister, Katie Dreiling, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association and St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Arr.: McGilley & Hoge Chapel (913) 642- 3565.

Dear MaryAnn, Janet and David, Your father and grandfather was always one of the kindest and dearest men I have ever known. He always went out of his way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable.
I am sorry for your loss, but wish for you that the many memories you share with him will sustain you and keep you always near to him.

I did not know that he grew up in Western Kansas, where so many of the Leiker's grew up as well. I am sure he knew some of them whilst living in Victoria. Ken's maternal grandmother and grandfather were Russian immigrants too, but they lived in Topeka most or all of their lives.

My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family.

Love,

Cherie (Williams) Bates

Dear Aunt Bertie, Mary Ann, Judy, and Richard

I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. Even though miles separate us, memories do not.

We always looked forward to your visits to Victoria to visit relatives. You were our cousins nearer to us in age. The memories I have are many and are so important as we become the older generation. Lots of love, Larry Dreiling
