Marshall Conrad Obituary

1923-2003 Dr. Marshall Dean Conrad, age 80, passed away at his home in Liberty, MO, on September 6, 2003. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty, MO. Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2003, at the Liberty Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and burial in Green Lawn Cemetery, Plattsburg, MO, with arrangements made by Bailey and Cox Family Funeral Service, Plattsburg, MO. Dr. Conrad was born and raised in Polo, MO, where he graduated as valedictorian of Polo High School. He attended and graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, after serving three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While at William Jewell College, Dr. Conrad was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, participated as a varsity cheerleader and was involved in numerous other campus organizations. Dr. Conrad graduated in the first class of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, in 1950. From there, he established his practice of Veterinary Medicine in Plattsburg, MO, and resided there for the next 40 years. During this time, he served six years on the Plattsburg School Board, was on the Board of Directors for the First National Bank for over 20 years, served on several city boards, church boards, and numerous other activities. Dr. Conrad had been a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of St. Joseph, MO, since 1955, where he attained the rank of 32nd Degree. In Liberty, he served on the Board of Governors at William Jewell College and was an active part of his church. Dr. Conrad is survived by his wife, Janie M. Conrad of the home; his sister, V. Jean Rusk of Westcliffe, CO; his four sons, M. Dean Conrad II of Cameron, MO, J. Clay Conrad of Half Moon Bay, CA, Dr. Jon W. Conrad of Coffeyville, KS, D. Paul Conrad of Spring Hill, FL; a daughter, Jean L. Pineda of Cedar Hill, TX; a stepson, Don Suskiewich of Taos, NM; and a stepdaughter, Susan P. Suskiewich of Boulder, CO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kristin Burgard of Edwardsville, IL, Thomas Conrad of Cameron, MO, Mike Conrad of Concord, CA, Kim Conrad of Fort Lee, NJ, Anna Olvera of Dallas, TX, Laura Pineda of Cedar Hill, TX, Katie Conrad of Spring Hill, FL; a stepgrandson, Charlie Parker Suskiewich of Taos, NM; and a great-grandson, Keegan Andrew Burgard of Edwardsville, IL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynn Conrad, in 1988. The family requests no flowers and suggests that donations be given to the Liberty Christian Church Memorial Fund, 427 E. Kansas St., Liberty, MO 64068.
