Veronica Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS Veronica Verona (Markland) Williams was born December 16, 1944, in Panama City, Republic of Panama, to the late Cecil E. Markland, Sr. and Dorcas Wilson Markland. Veronica accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at the Church of the Nazarene in Rio Abajo, Panama City, Panama. She was raised in Panama in the towns of La Boca, and Paraiso and Pedro Miguel in the Canal Zone. She graduated from the Pan American Institute High School in 1964 and went to the prestigious sewing school, La Ideal, where she became a talented seamstress. Veronica immigrated to the United States in October 1966 to pursue her dreams. She joined the United States Army in October of 1967, where she served as a Financial Accountant until she was honorably discharged in 1969. After her discharge from the United States Army, she attended the Airline Stewardess School in Kansas City, MO, and graduated in 1970. She then took the job with Household Finance as an accountant. On March 28, 1968, Veronica was joined in Holy Matrimony to Joe Williams. During this union, their daughter, Monica, was born. In 1973, Veronica moved on to work as an accountant for the Finance Department of the United States Marine Corps. Veronica left Kansas City, MO, for San Diego, CA, in 1976, where she married Richard Price and worked as a Teacher's Aid. in 1981, she returned to Kansas City, MO, and was reinstated in the Finance Department of the United States Marine Corps, where she served in many divisions, moving up the corporate ladder to Accounting Supervisor. Veronica retired from civil service on September 30, 2003, and moved to Yuma, AZ in March, 2004. Veronica loved sewing, dancing, reading, watching movies and listening to music. On February 5, 2005, Veronica departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Monica Sykes, son-in-law, Kenneth Sykes; two granddaughters, Kenya and Nubia; four siblings: two brothers, Edward Markland (Bronx, NY) and Hecktor Markland (Panama), and two sisters, Clementina Markland Parrish (Indianapolis, IN) and Iris Markland Brown (Panama); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial service in Veronica's honor will be held on February 19, 2005, at Unity Southeast Church, at 2421 Meyer Blvd., at 4 p.m. No flowers, please.

Veronica was my supervisor when I worked on the pay deck. She was a wonderful kind person. She was a great supervisor. We loved her.
