Vincent Taormina Obituary

Vincent Robert Taormina M.D.
January 30, 1927 - October 23, 2022
Lexington, Kentucky - Vincent was born January 30, 1927 and passed away October 23, 2022.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Delores Mary Carr, who passed away March 30, 2014 after a long illness. They met and married in Iowa City, Iowa when he was a medical resident and she, an assistant manager in Medical Services at the University of Iowa Hospitals. They were preceded in death by sons Robert Vincent and John Philip. They leave behind four children, Mary Delores of Lexington, Vincent George (Michele) of Chesterfield, Missouri, James Steven of Pinellas Park, Florida and Ann Marie (Ron) Cate of Nashville, Tennessee, six lovely grandchildren, Harrison, Samuel and Hannah Jones of Nashville, Tennessee and Vincent, Ann Katherine (Devin) Hayes and Claire Taormina of St. Louis, Missouri and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Dr. Taormina was a veteran of WWII, private first class, serving in the Med. Det. 3rd Mil. Govt. as a Medical Aidman. He was a graduate of Fordham University and the University of Virginia Medical School and specialized in Neurologic medicine. He was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology and was a long-standing member of the American Academy of Neurology, the AMA, Kentucky Medical Association and Fayette County Medical Society.
Dr. Taormina moved his family to Lexington in 1965 from Chapel Hill, North Carolina where he had been an Assistant Professor of Neurologic Medicine and joined the Neurology Department at the Lexington Clinic. In 1978, he established a private Neurologic practice in Lexington and surrounding communities including Woodford and Scott Counties until his retirement in 1994.
Finding retirement not entirely to his liking, he obtained activity as a Primary Care Physician in the VA Outpatient Department steadily for the next five years and then as a part time physician until his full retirement in 2007 at the age of 80. Over the years while his wife was alive, they pursued their love of travel to new and adventuresome places in addition to visits with distant family members or hosting family reunions.
A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00pm Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Cathedral of Christ the King with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11:00am Thursday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine for the John Taormina scholarship award, Bluegrass Care Navigators (hospice) or the Cathedral of Christ the King.
