William Alexander Obituary

William A. " Bill" Alexander, 65, Bradford Ct., Richmond, formerly of Irvine, husband of Patricia A. Pearson Alexander, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born June 21, 1936, a son of the late Tipton E. and Eva Lou Wise Alexander. He was a member of the Christian Worship Center and a veteran of the US Army. He held a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, with his Rank I, from Eastern Kentucky University. He served as the Superintendent of Estill Co. Schools from 1979-91. Long before the KY Education Reform Act mandated more equal funding for all school districts, he was widely commended for administering a central KY school program on an eastern KY school budget. Before becoming superintendent, he served as principal of Ravenna Elementary School (1971-79), and also as principal of Estill Co. High School (1966-68). In total, he served the school children of Estill Co. for thirty-three years. After retirement, he was employed part-time by EKU as Bid Administrator with the SouthEast/SouthCentral Education Cooperative, a consortium of public school districts. Survivors in addition to his wife include son, David (Renee) Alexander; daughter, Tina (Greg) Clevenger; brother, Nelson Alexander; sister, Mary Clay Abney; and grandchildren, Chelsea and Chase Alexander, all of Irvine. He was preceded in death by sister, Golden Alexander Woosley. Services 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Carmel Christian Church by Rev. David Alexander. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 5-9 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Home, Irvine. Donations may be made to the T.E. Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Estill Co. Board of Education, PO Box 930, Irvine, KY 40336, or to the Christian Worship Center, 105 Broadway, Irvine.
