Rev. Bill Harrelson

GREENVILLE - The Rev. Bill Harrelson, 74, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mr. Harrelson, a native and a lifelong resident of Pitt County, was a graduate of Grimesland High School. In the late 1960's he was employed as one of the first motorcycle officers with the Greenville Police Department. He was owner and operator of Bill Harrelson Contractors, and was the founding pastor of The Light House Church of God at Haddocks Crossroads and ministered for 30 years. His passion in life was his family and ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.G. and Rosa Banks Harrelson; a grandson; one brother; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Anderson Harrelson; children, Billy Harrelson and wife Kathy, of Greenville, Janie McLawhorn and husband Donnie, of Stokes, Debra H. Sanderson, of Grifton, Nancy Hathaway and husband Joseph, Richard Harrelson, John Harrelson and wife Heather, and Amy Burney and husband Tommy, all of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Peggy McPherson, of Whiteville and Margaret Taylor, Winterville; and brothers, Kelly C. Dixon, of Greenville, and Pete W. Dixon, of Grifton. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
