BRYAN, Ohio — Dale M. Paxton, 91 years, of Bryan, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2015.
Dale was born November 10, 1923, in Paulding County, Ohio, the son of the late Ervin LeRoy and Jeanette (Brown) Paxton.
Dale served in the United States Army taking part in battles in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. He married Donna Furney and Lavina Fern Gunter, and they both preceded him in death. Dale married Anna E. Fortney on October 18, 1958, in Bryan, and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1999.
Dale was a heavy equipment operator for the former Sweatnam Pipeline which became Brust Pipeline, working for 31 years, and retiring in 1984.
Dale was a lifetime member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489 and the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233.
He enjoyed making Sunday family meals and was passionate about playing cards with the family. Dale also found joy in camping, gardening and spending time in his workshop, tinkering on woodworking projects and on his tractors. He left a legacy of love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Judy English of Sherwood, Mary Ankney of Sherwood, Norma (Richard) English of Defiance, Sally (Chuck) Reese of Wauseon, Dale "Butch" (Kristine) Paxton of Kendallville, Indiana, Dennis (Cindy) Paxton of Bryan, Ohio, and DuWayne (Tresa) Paxton of Kendallville, Indiana; one stepdaughter, Sandra Stahl of Alvordton; 22 grandchildren; 1 stepgrandchild; 51 great-grandchildren;one stepgreat-grandchild; three sisters, Karen (Robert) Baughman of Paulding, Betty (Richard) Baker of Sherwood and Reba Jean (Edward) Luderman of Cecil.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his three wives; one infant daughter; and two brothers, infant Paul and Clair Paxton.
Visitation for Dale M. Paxton will be held Monday, April 6, 2015, from 2-8 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn St., Bryan, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, with Ted Mathes officiating. Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryan VFW Post 2489.
