Marjorie Packer Obituary
LANCASTER: Marjorie (Marge) Gene Ridenour Packer, 96, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at her residence. Marge was born March 2, 1920 in Thornville, Ohio. She graduated from Thornville High School in 1928 and from the Newark Hospital Association School of Nursing in 1941. In 1946 Marge married Charles W. Packer, son of Thomas and Helen Weagley Packer, also of Thornville. Marge was employed by Fairfield Medical Center and then Dr. Jaspers office. She was also a company nurse for Diamond Power for 11 years. Around age 70 she became legally blind from chronic malaria. Her first pilot dog was "Glory" and 10 years later she had "Becky". Those four footed loving guides gave her so much freedom. Marge was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was an active associate of the Southeast Ohio Sight Center.
Marge is survived by daughter in law, Sandy Packer, grandson Matthew Packer of Lancaster, Ohio; sister Dorothy Ridenour DeRolph of Thornville, brother John (Judy) Ridenour from Cary, NC, brother, Lewis Ridenour of New Lexington, sister in law, Barbara Packer of Thornville, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marge in death were her parents: Luke and Esta Smith Ridenour of Thornville; husband Charlie (while at Air Force Station at Point Barrow, Alaska); son, Michael Packer; brother Carl and his wife Helen (Goldsberry) Ridenour of Reynoldsburg, OH; brother in law, Paul (Dorothy) DeRolph, Glenford, OH; brother in law, Richard Packer of Thornville and daughter in law, Twila Burgett Packer of Lancaster, OH.
Funeral services will be held at HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME on Thursday April 7th, 2016 at 1:30PM, with Pastor Roger Quay officiating. Burial will follow at the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville, OH. Friends may call from 5-8 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 6th.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southeast Ohio Sight Center, 358-A Lincoln Ave. Lancaster, OH 43130, or Pilot Dogs Inc. 625 W. Town St., Columbus, OH 43215.

So glad Mom and I saw Marge in March. She has been part of our family for years from spending time with my Grandmother in Jackson to attending my wedding reception at Henry Manor last June. I loved sitting and talking with her about anything and any place. She is playing cards with Pat Hoch now. Rest in Peace Marge...I will see you again some day...love you, Celeste Purdy Kennedy

To the Packer Family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Marge. I talked with her recently when visiting in Ohio. Marge & I have been friends for years starting with Diamond Power then in Euchre Club and she attended many of our family get togethers as she was always considered to be part of our family. She was so special to all of us and will certainly be missed.

Dear Packer Family, Just want to say that my Mom Pat Hoch enjoyed very much Marg's friendship over the years until her death on the same day that Marg passed away 4/2/2008.

Dear family, I am so sorry to learn that Marg has passed away. I knew her for many years while I was a member at St. Paul's church and the women's group. We had good adventures and she will be missed. Please accept my most sincere sympathy in this time of sorrow.
