Beverly Stern Obituary

Beverly Gould Stern, Newport Beach, CA Beverly Gould Stern, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2017 in Newport Beach, CA, surrounded by her family. Beverly will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, an elegant and generous hostess, a loyal friend, and as a beautiful person inside and out. Her bright blue, sparkling eyes were an open window to a loving and caring soul. Beverly was born on September 7, 1932 in Hollywood, CA, to Horace and Charlotte Gould. She grew up in Los Angeles and Arcadia, CA, and graduated from Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School. Beverly graduated from the Business School of the University of Southern California in 1955, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Beverly worked for Eastman-Kodak and other agencies as a print and fashion model, and as a professional dancer. She married Bob Stern in 1959, after meeting on a blind date accompanied by a marriage proposal from Bob, who immediately recognized his true love. Beverly and Bob moved to Camarillo, CA, in 1959 and welcomed four children, Cheryl, Tracy, Karen and Barton. She served as a volunteer to the National Charity League and founded the Monte Vista Junior High Drill Team. The family moved to Bass Lake, CA, in 1975, where Beverly and Bob owned the Pines Resort and associated ventures. She often performed at the Golden Chain Theater and raised funds for the Bulldog Foundation. Her Bass Lake home still serves as a gathering place for generations of family and friends, where her welcoming love, generosity and appreciation of all types of people created lifelong memories. Beverly lived at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, CA, from 2011 until her death, where a new group of friends discovered her kindness and spirit. She continued to serve as a volunteer member of USC Town & Gown and USC Trojan Guild of Orange County. Beverly was known and loved for her dedication and loyalty to friends, as a dancer, an equestrian, a devoted alumna of USC and the most loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother imaginable. Her elegance, composure, thoughtfulness and expression of love were known to all. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Robert and brother Charles Gould. She leaves an amazing legacy of love, survived by daughters Cheryl Wilhite (Blaine, deceased), Tracy Scambray (Mark), Karen Sweeney (Kevin), son Barton Stern (Heidi), and grandchildren Dana Worth (Andrew), Tyler Wilhite, Shane Scambray, Tia Scambray, Beau Sweeney, Troy Sweeney, Robert Stern, George Stern, Katherine Stern and Camille Stern. Arrangements are handled by Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel. A family burial is scheduled. A memorial service will be held in Bass Lake, CA, in May 2018, with a date to be selected. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to Balboa Bay Club 1221 Auxiliary or Town & Gown of USC.
