David Morgan Obituary

Morgan, Dr. David Aug. 21, 1937- Feb. 9, 2005
Born and spent all his life in the City of Los Angeles. Attended Los Angeles City Schools graduating from John Marshall High before attending Pomona College where he received his BA Degree then to University of Wisconsin to receive both his Masters of Science and Doctor of Science degrees in the field of biochemistry. Dr. Morgan worked in various industries as a consultant in the chemistry of blood testing, food chemistry and photographic chemistry. Authored several books including "Rapid Incorporation of Phosphate into Phosphoinsitides By Mitochondria," "The Definitions of Biochemistry," "Business Communication" and "Enzyme Circuitry." In 1985 when his father Gilbert Morgan passed away he took over the management of the Morgan Camera shop (established 1932) in Hollywood, California continuing the family tradition of merchandising photographic products. He always acted as an advocate for individual liberties and property rights of the individual, engaging in many legal battles with various government agencies. He believed that eminent domain (the taking of property by the government) was wrong because of the many abuses and favoritism or sweetheart deals or subsides given to favored developers i.e., property taxes were diverted from public services to subsidize private developers and properties were declared blighted incorrectly and then taken by the government thus displacing many low-income business owners or residents. Due to his deep interest in science, philosophy, religion and the workings of the human mind and his willingness to share his knowledge, he always had long interesting discussions with people who often became his friends. Long time member and past Treasurer and Director of the Adventures Club of Los Angeles. A Ham radio operator for over fifty years, he was known as K6DDO to his many radio friends worldwide. Survived by his brother, James of Pomona. Friends may call at Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services and entombment will be at the Pomona Mausoleum Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Todd Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dave was a man full of spirit and very active. He was very diverse with a wide variety of interests and knowledge. I appreciated his activism in the Hollywood community and his balance between concerns for family members and friends and the latest fight he was involved in.

We visited Dave two years ago and I have spoken with him on a number of occasions, incuding as recently as only a few days ago. We had long chats when were together and I know how dedicated he was to his political and legal pursuits. He was unique and will be missed.

Very saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I had contacted him via amateur radio only a few days before his death. He was a dear friend.
