Diane Davies Obituary

July 10, 1963 - March 28, 2015 Diane was born to Dianna and Emmet Murphy in 1963 in Orlando, Florida. She was the first of four Murphy children raised in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Bishop Alemany High School in 1981, then the University of California, Berkeley, in 1985. Diane met Brian Joseph Davies while both were earning their MBAs at UCLA Anderson School of Management, where they both graduated in 1989. They married on October 7, 1989, and had two children, Samantha and Megan, whom they raised in Glendale and La Canada Flintridge, California. Diane was a kind, loving, and compassionate person. Her world revolved around the quality time she spent with her family, friends, colleagues and clients, and her beloved dogs Oreo and Chloe. Diane joined Deloitte in 1989 as a management consultant. During the more than 26 years she served at Deloitte, she made a lasting impact on her clients and teams with her passion for life, deep industry knowledge, and dynamic and approachable leadership style. As a partner of the firm, she advised CEOs and senior executives at numerous managed care organizations and health plans, and held a number of leadership roles during her tenure with the organization. Diane served as the Health Plan sector national leader, the Regional Managing Director for the West Region, the national Consulting Women's Initiative (WIN) leader, the advisory university partner for her alma mater UCLA, and as a creator of the IMAGINE program for outstanding leaders. Diane served as a member of the Deloitte LLP U.S. Board of Directors, the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, Global Board of Directors, the Board of Directors for Deloitte Consulting LLP, where she was a founding member, and the Board of Directors for the Deloitte Foundation. Most recently, Diane served as Deloitte Consulting's chief talent officer and as the national managing director for regions where she worked tirelessly to make the organization a top destination for talent and to enhance the Deloitte experience, while encouraging practitioners to find balance between their work and personal lives. Her reputation as a respected leader, compassionate mentor, and role model was unmatched. Diane was recognized for her professional acumen by the National Diversity Council as one of its "Most Powerful and Influential Women," by Consulting Magazine as one of its "Top 25 Consultants," and by Business Insurance Magazine as one of its "Women to Watch." More importantly, Diane was instrumental in developing programs to retain and advance Deloitte's high-performing women professionals. Like many great leaders, Diane had a real passion for what she did and used this to inspire others. Diane was highly self-motivated, confident, and unafraid to challenge the status quo and make tough decisions. In both her personal life and career, she was authentic and a great listener. Diane always lived her values and modeled the attributes and behavior she was known for and expected in others. Diane is survived by her husband Brian, two daughters, Samantha and Megan, her mother Dianna, her father Emmet, sister Kim, and brothers Mike and Tim, along with scores of friends that she considered family. Diane's legacy is what she taught all of them by example - that there is no limit to what they can achieve. We will always love and remember Diane. She will be in our hearts and thoughts forever. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 1, at 11:30 a.m. St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church in La Canada-Flintridge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online in Diane's memory to UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation or Pasadena Humane Society. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena

It was such a gift to know Diane. She inspired me both personally and professionally to go after what's important in a positive and thoughtful manner. She was a great support to me while I attended school in Southern California and I felt so fortunate that I got some career advice from the best. She seemed to master all aspects of life, except maybe how to bring a delicious picnic into the Hollywood Bowl, and will be sorely missed. Thanks for the memories.

Not only did Diane light up any room she entered with her beautiful smile and sparking blue eyes, but she also lit up the people who were fortunate enough to spend time with her with her caring and loving spirit. I'm one of the lucky ones who got to know Diane for many years, since we met at Cal as college freshmen. Being with Diane was always a positive, fun-filled experience that left me feeling uplifted. No matter how many demands she had on her time, she was the best listener ever and focused on making the most of every moment. She lived fully. So many others and I will miss her deeply. But I'm confident that heaven is a brighter place with the addition of Di.

I worked with Diane in the LA office early in her career and I was so proud to see all of her accomplishments. I remember her telling me I was setting a bad example for those behind me as a working mother because I was trying to do it all. Diane ended up doing it so much better than I ever thought to. She was a bright star and will be greatly missed in this universe.
My heart goes out to you, Brian, and your lovely daughters. They will be so inspired by the legacy their mother gave them.

Diane-the people you worked with were obviously inspired by your talent and professionalism. To us, you were the beauty with the ready smile who kept Brian on his toes. We would have liked the professional Diane, but we LOVED the lady who brought zero attitude and a huge heart back East to visit year after year. We will toast you regularly at our dinner table, and when the time is right, our reunion will test the patience of the angels. Your wonderful family is living proof that your goodness and light will never disappear. Rest in Peace Sweetheart.

Brian and Family
I just wanted to let you know that Diane was a huge positive influence on my career and choices that I made at Deloitte. Her guidance and advice is the reason, I was able to see the possible in terms of balancing career and family. She was a very real example of how to find that balance between family and career. She was always there when I needed a word of advice and encouragement. I will miss her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
