Harold MURDOCK Obituary

MURDOCK, JR., Harold G. (Bud)
July 29, 1935-Sept. 12, 2013
Bud passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on September 12, 2013. Born in Detroit, MI, to Edna and Harold G. Murdock, Sr., Bud was the second of four children. The family moved to California in the early 1940's, where, along with his partners, Harold, Sr. founded Arrowsmith Tool and Die Co.
Bud attended Dorsey High School and graduated from USC with a BS in Accounting. He was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, an affiliation which he treasured for the remainder of his life. Following graduation, and his marriage to Jody (Joanne) Priebe, Bud served three years in the Naval Reserve. Upon his discharge, the couple returned to California, where Bud joined the family business, which was to become Murdock, Inc., an aerospace manufacturing company. Bud took over running the business when his father had to retire due to poor health, and remained at the helm until it was sold in 1997.
Bud and Jody have been long-time residents of Rolling Hills, where they raised their three children: Jennifer Rooney, Christine Arbuckle (John), and Harold G., III (Sheryl). A loving and devoted family man, Bud nurtured and inspired his chidlren and his grandchildren: Sarah Rooney Brooks (Chris), Shannon Rooney, Ruairi Rooney, Cody Arbuckle, Kylee Arbuckle, Makenzie Murdock, and Delaney Murdock. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Bud also nurtured and inspired an extended family - Peninsula Committee Children's Hospital, to which he donated many hours in support of the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show and Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
In addition to his wife Jody and their children and grandchildren, Bud is survived by a sister, Margaret Hupp, of Hailey, ID, and a brother, Roy Murdock (Judi), of Bainbridge Island, WA. His sister, Barbara McMillan, predeceased him.
Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 13th, at 2:00 p.m., at Palos Verdes Golf Club, 3301 Via Campesina, in Palos Verdes Estates.

As an employee of Arrowsmith Tool and Die Company in the 1950s, I first knew Bud as a college student working during school breaks, and later worked with him at Murdock, Inc. in the 1960s.. He was alway the gentleman and will be remembered for his kind heart... Deepest sympathy to Jody and family...

I attended Audubon Jr.H.S. with a Harold Murdock, played baseball at Rancho playground with many of our classmates, went to Manual Arts H.S., then wound up at USC. I am on the teaching faculty at CHLA and the Keck Medical Center of USC. Its amazing that our paths never crossed. Harold was born on the same day as my cousin Steve, who also attended Audubon and Manual, 6 weeks prior to my birth. Two years in the service, in Vietnam, Bronze Star, etc. Its a sad way to discover a potential classmate, although he lead a great life.

Jody and family,
We send our sympathy to you on the passing of Bud. It seems forever since the Dorsey days and USC parties, horse shows with our daughters and remembering all the times we shared.
