Harry Trimborn Obituary

February 21, 1929 - January 10, 2019 Harry J. Trimborn, former foreign correspondent and editorial writer for the Los Angeles Times, died on January 10th in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was 89. Harry had an illustrious career as a foreign correspondent and reported on a wide range of events and subjects around the world, including the Vietnam War, the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the rise of the Polish anti-communist labor and social movement Solidarity, which ultimately transformed Poland into a democracy. Harry led a full and fascinating life, and, befitting his inquisitive mind and reporter's respect for the truth, was a lifelong learner, open to new thoughts and perspectives. He unfailingly treated people with respect and consideration. He was always immaculately dressed, loved good Cognac and had a wry sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, collector of antique maps and true Anglophile. Most of all, he loved to fly, and the hours spent in his plane were among his happiest. He is survived by his wife Lilli, son Tom, daughter-in-law Paula and three loving granddaughters. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, North Carolina.
