James Short Obituary

November 18, 1937 - April 21, 2023 James (Jim) Harley Short, 85 of La Quinta, CA, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, with his wife Antoinette (Toni) at his side and within minutes of having received last rites.
Jim was born on November 18, 1937, to John Edward Short, MD, and Catherine Julia Connelly Short.
After graduating from Mt. Carmel High School in 1956, he studied Public Administration at the University of Southern California, was affiliated with the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and graduated in June 1961. Jim dearly loved being a Trojan and following his beloved football team.
Jim had a multi-faceted career in insurance, securities, and wholesale meat distribution, using his "gift of gab" to succeed in each.
Jim married Toni Morrell, whom he met and courted during their days at USC, in September 1960. Jim and Toni had three children: Maureen Short Garrett (Bill), Margaret Ann Short (Tracy), and Matthew Damien Short (Melissa). Papa, as he was called, is survived by 5 grandchildren: Colleen, Shannon & Brian Garrett, and Connor & Riley Short.
Jim is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Short Campbell, and brother, John Edward Short (Ann).
Private services will be held with immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to either St. Jude's Hospital or the Dementia/Alzheimer Foundation.

Although I did not know Jim personally, I have heard many wonderful stories of his life from his daughter, Maggi, who has been my friend for many, many years. Sending my heartfelt condolences to the entire Short family.
