June Yuer Obituary

YUER, June Artist and Celebrated Tai Chi Teacher. June Muriel Watson Yuer, age 90, died on October 20th in Escondido, California from complications of Alzheimer's. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1917, she grew up in Inglewood. A 60-year resident of Echo Park, Yuer was a self-taught, life long artist and celebrated Tai Chi teacher. She was the widow of Max Yuer, also an artist. Artist Donna Shire, a long-time friend and neighbor, stated, "June was an idealist...she lived her life as any artist would have wanted to...outside of the commerce of the art world, just doing her thing. Most important to her was the small community of people that knew her...loved her...and her art. Her home and studio in Echo Park was truly a Shangri-La, a reflection of her lifestyle of "being here now!" Surviving family members include: Sharon Watson, Pamela Santoro and Darlene Genschel of California, Elton Stevens of Florida, and Barbara Sampson, of North Carolina. Grand Nieces are Joan and Dorna Giesemann of Washington, DC. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Contributions / memorial gifts may be directed to an animal welfare organization of your choosing or the Alzheimer Association.
